More read out from the meeting last night, please! Weren't the name changes front and center?
I think the meeting started at 7 and I was not able to start watching until 8:30ish. I saw perhaps half an hour. At the point I started, Reid was going through the power point put together by staff or the committee, not sure, asking questions of a committee spokeswoman, the four W-L students on the committee and the W-L principal. His questions seemed thoughtful and it wasn't clear what new name he favored. He was concerned about name recognition and cost. No one had a clue about the cost and the principal said W-L letters and blue and grey colors are everywhere in the building so keeping those the same will mean the name change would cost less. A couple of the students on the committee also seemed thoughtful and articulate, one not so much. They all said that the students want to keep the "W-L". The students made it sound like the new name options were discussed a lot at the school with the student body but my DD, a 9th grader, disagrees and says she just heard lots of rumors. Talento also asked many questions and seems to have an agenda. For example, the 9th grade rep on the committee said that most students he spoke with did not know why the name had to be changed. She interpreted that to me the 9th graders were ignorant and need to be educated rather than the 9th graders wanting to keep the current name. She also said that she heard the students at W-L were told not to talk about the name change and all of them responded that was absolutely not true. O"Grady didn't ask any questions during the time I watched - just thanked the committee members. Hopefully someone who watched more than I did will chime in!
