So, anyone who disagrees with you is close-minded? Got it.

Some very good reasons have been given for why this is a poor name.

+1 I've been really irritated by the news coverage that makes it seem that there are only two camps -- supporters of the Washington-Loving name vs. those who don't think the name should be changed at all.

There seem to be a lot -- esp. among current students -- who support changing the name but not to that one.

I'm really wondering what the Board will do. I have a feeling they don't really care what people think - based on them voting for Hamm Middle School last night. Most everyone wanted Stratford, and even the daughter of Dorothy Hamm said she didn't want it named after her mother, but they voted it in anyway.

I proposed they keep the name but require all FCPS staff to use strikeout font on the Lee section of the name. That way the name stays and no money is spent but FCPS gets to make their statement.

This whole conversation comes down to three questions that the SB needs to answer.

1 - Would the newly proposed name be on the shortlist of candidate names, if we weren't trying to retrofit the "W-L" abbreviation?

2 - How much money is really being saved by keeping the "W-L" abbreviation?

3 - If the answer to #1 is NO, is the savings from #2 really worth picking a name that will likely last for many decades?

I find it hard to believe that we are not being penny wise and pound foolish trying to pick a name that will retain the "W-L" abbreviation.

The School Board votes tomorrow on the new name. Anyone have a sense of where members are leaning?

The Washington-Loving Generals? Shouldn't it be the Arlington-Loving Generals?
