How many times have you posted this exact same sentence? It’s so weird.

I guess I'm triggered when these folks send out new emails every other day proclaiming their opposition to a casino, while meanwhile their fellow Democrats like Scott Surovell keep pushing for one. It feels like a good cop, bad cop routine.

It’s just weird that you think they’re a monolith. They’re people with different positions and opinions. Most of the Fairfax democratic delegation voted against the casino. Some did not (hope their constituents kick them out). Meanwhile reps from both parties in other parts of the state were happy to stick it to Fairfax. I saw footage of one Republican who gleefully voted for the casino bill in an attempt to stick it to democrats because of the redistricting amendment.

I would indeed expect local Democratic politicians to be more of a united front against a casino in Tysons when Fairfax is heavily Democratic and there is very strong community opposition to a casino.

The fact that there isn't is suspect. A lot of us are tired of hearing some local Democrats claiming they oppose a casino, but never acknowledging that the legislation wouldn't be moving forward but for Scott Surovell's efforts. If this goes forward, their opposition is meaningless and only serves to give them cover for when they next come up for re-election.

It isn’t suspect. They are going to let it happen and democrat voters will still vote for them. Democrats are the ultimate tribalists. They will not turn their back on the party even as it literally treats them like dirt and ruins their lives. It’s stunning. It’s why people who aren’t blue literally just move away. That leaves only democrats living in their crap holes. And then crazy stuff starts like in California where they want to tax people for moving away.

Wow, imagine calling Democrats tribalists in 2026 when the Republican president has just started a war of choice and his party continues to simply support whatever he says.

Every accusation is a confession.

How is that the crap holes are some of the most expensive, highest growth areas of the country?

If you want to really visit crap holes, go to rural AR, MS, LA, GA, AL…all massively red, nearly all completely dependent on government handouts, all dirt poor…all literally crap holes.

I mean, have you ever been to Bristol, VA?

I think there are a lot of super partisan folks on this site who bash all Democrats or bash all Republicans, and that's fine, but there are a lot of folks just irritated with current politicians generally. Like it or not, we can dislike Trump and some of the local Democrats in equal measure. It creates a lot of suspicion on our parts when issues like this come up - it's entirely possible that Democrats who want to ram a Tysons casino down our throats are coordinating with other Democrats who know their constituents don't want one. The latter get to vote against a casino and send out emails professing their opposition, which is probably fine with the likes of Scott Surovell since he knows he has enough votes. It's not like the Democrats who claim to oppose a casino will call Surovell out by name or even acknowledge that it wouldn't be moving forward without a lot of Democratic supporters. Maybe there's a legitimate split within the party, or maybe it's just been orchestrated to protect incumbents.

That’s not an argument. In this area people vote for democrats no matter who is on the ballot. They don’t have to do what we want locally because they know they’ll be re-elected regardless.

What's annoying about this crop of politicians is that this is the best idea they could come up with to generate revenue in the county. Their other plan is stop the data centers, the only growth industry in Fairfax County. I guess the plan to hold out until Democrats control Congress again and demand more six figure WFH federal jobs.

It's always projection with Republicans. Always.

This is so true, but it also applies to the other party. People who pledge their loyalty simply because of party politics and vote "against" or out of fear are ruining this country. They need to snap out of this stupor and vote for the candidates that promise to move the needle in the right direction, not simply because they are running against the party they hate. It's how you get casinos smack in the middle of the busiest residential and office/shopping area where people cannot avoid it even if they tried. I've never seen this anywhere, not even in Vegas.

Wow, this casino has more drama than a soap opera from the 80s. Now that it’s at the governor’s desk I hope she realizes what a colossal mess it is and vetos it. The Democratic Party needs to focus on more important issues than to line the pockets of the developer and Surovell. He’s going down in flames with this one and spanberger needs to steer clear of that dumpster fire.

The one thing that's become clear is that local Democrats are total hypocrites.

It's a Democrat from Mount Vernon - Scott Surovell - who is the main proponent of a casino in Tysons. A few other local Democrats support him.

Most of the local Democrats claim to oppose the casino, including people like Jimmy Bierman and Dalia Palchik.

But, then, when Surovell crows on Facebook about his success in moving a casino bill forward, the Fairfax County Democratic Committee likes his post.

They are trying to play every side of the issue, and all they've done is shown they can't be trusted. If Republicans deserve to lose at the national level and in Congress, the Democrats in state and local position in Fairfax also deserve to get the boot.

Meanwhile our governor is just sitting on it.

Why would they oppose a casino proposed by one of their own and supported by Spanberger during her. Campaign???
