Is it possible to keep the weight off without exercise? What motivates you? How do you keep yourself from eating when you are stressed? I lost the baby weight and am in a good place. However, I've always been on the heavier side and am afraid I will climb back up the scale yet again... any advice would be great.
Thank you ![]() |
I'm skinny and I keep the weight off by working out two to three times a week (BFing helped take it off in the first place). Working out is a great stress reliever, gets me away from my kids for a while, and it will help you live longer. Highly recommend it. |
Find soemthing to do/soothe you other than food and make it your habit instead of eating. For instance, knitting, drawing, writing, lifting weights, anything that uses your hands. Make it a habit now, when you are not stressed, and the habit should kick in and soothe you when you are stressed instead of the habit of eating when stressed. Also, stress eating usually happens at night so, after dinner clean-up and "close" the kitchen. Get it stuck in your head that the kitchen is truly closed and there is no food available. Also, do NOT keep sugary or salty "snacks" in the house. |
OP here. Do you drink? I must admit, on weekends I like to have a couple of glasses of wine with hubby (no more than 6oz). It's just a great way for me to feel like a "grown up", get me in a romantic mood, and just relax. I find the happier I am, the less I eat. But, I do gain a 1/2 pound that weekend and start the week trying to make up for it...
Cheers! |
I control what I put in my mouth, count calories loosely. I drink on the weekends but not a ton, and I don't exercise. |
Skinny people tend to get skinnier when stressed, not fatter. I am one. Sorry, that is just the way life is. |
I'm also thin. It's a metabolism thing for the most part. I found that after having a baby, I tried like hell to lose the weight with no success. But when my body metabolism shifted again (maybe its own timetable after I quit bf'ing?) I lost the weight without trying.
I also think part of my luck is due to the way I see food: as a necessity to fuel up my body. I never get hungry before lunch, and if I'm busy, I forget to eat lunch. I have to remind myself it's time to feed the kids most days. I'm not anorexic, I just think I *really* learned to associate food= dirty dishes as a kid, and hate eating and messing up dishes!! (I was the designated kitchen cleaner in my home...) Lastly, I've always had allergies and over time, I can't taste much anymore. Maybe if drug companies capitalized on reducing our ability to smell/ taste food, that might help people to overeat less too? I know I'm lucky, and have immense respect for people who can stay on a diet to lose weight because I NEVER could when I was trying to lose baby weight. |
God, I wish I were you PP. Just for a day... |
Me too. I have never, ever forgotten to eat a meal! |
You have to exercise and be mindful of what you eat. That's the only tried and true way to maintain a healthy weight. |
Avoid empty sugar and sodas. |
Yup. I used to be naturally skinny until I had kids and just now, with my youngest 5 yrs, am a back down to a size 10 and planning on losing more and then maintaining. In order to become "normal" again I started to change my habits. I had picked up "fat" ahbits and I am have been getting back to "skinny" habits. I do not drink and soda at all, not even diet. I do not drink juice, not even in the am. I drink water and tea and that is about it. I am always trying to remember to drink more water. On special occaisions I have champagne or wine but try and minimize it. I also only eat when I am hungry and only if it is a "meal." No snacking at all. So, if I am hungry I have breakfast, if not, I wait until lunch time. When I do eat a meal I try to satify many needs and cravings at once: sweet & protein & good mouth feel. For instance, for breakfast I like to have a low fat yougurt, a big handful of almonds aned maybe a cup of blueberries or an apple with a big jug of water. And so on... |
Not to be mean, but size 10 really isn't "skinny" -- at best it can be average if you are taller. But congrats on the weight loss and keep at it. |
What a snotty response. I think she should have been congratulated on what she's been able to achieve. Besides, she didn't say she was "skinny." She said she used to be, is now a size 10 and is working on losing more weight. Geesh. I, for one, would love to be a size 10. That would be very skinny for me! ![]() |
I agree that these are good tips, but size 10 is not skinny at all. I'm a size 6 and I'm not skinny. |
