Skinny moms - how do you keep the weight off? Is it possible...

find that it really helps to eat protein at meals rather than all carbs which is often quicker and easier. keeps me much fuller. also have really tried to actually cook meals. if i don't cook, i end up eating chips and cereal and various other snacks.

Dress size and weight/height are really variable. A size 10 could be quite skinny if the person is tall and inshape. I wear a smaller size (2-4 now) and weigh 5-10lbs less than I did in my 20s however I was much, much skinnier back then b/c I was in incredible shape. Flab weighs less than muscle. Clothing sizes have really upsized in the last 20 years. Maybe I shouldn't admit this but I have some pants that are now over 20 years old (hoping retro is in) the size labels are much bigger than pants today.

I can never lose weight or stay slim without exercise. I've never been a dieter but I don't eat sugar or junk food which probably helps. The best things to get slim..exercise (running and some toning/small weight reps), drink lots of water, get enough sleep, and lay off tons of carbs and sugar (not suggesting adkins but I swear I gain an inch when I eat a baked potato loaded with everything

I've read that sleep deprivation increases hormones that hold onto fat and decrease your metabolism. I know when I am inside with the kids I am constantly busy but physically not getting alot of exercise. I think these two combined make it really hadr for moms to lose the weight. Try walking briskly whenever and as much as you can, or taking the kids to a park where you run around with them rather than stand and watch while they climb.

A size 10 was a size 14 ten years ago. No one who is a size 10 is skinny. They might be fit, or toned, but not skinny.

hey, here are my thoughts. I'm 5"2' and a mother of 2. I basically eat about 1800 calories a day with a margin of error of 200 (meaning, on my bad days I get to 2000).

I'm really active - cleaning the house, baths. I don't work out but watch my weight closely. If I go up even 1/2 a lb, I try to be disciplined the next day.

Good luck! it's really, really, really hard to maintain. maybe it's even harder than losing the weight in the first place.

I was always a little chubby with all kinds of food issues and body image issues. After two kids my relationship with food has completely changed. I now view food as fuel, never feel like I need to count calories or even think twice about how much I eat. I am busy, I excersize almost every day because I enjoy it - not because I have to. I feel very lucky that things just sort of shifted with me. Now people comment all the time how lucky I am that I can eat what I want and stay thin! Never thought I would hear those words before.

I'm a size 4 but have always been tiny. I eat when I'm hungry and STOP when I'm full. When I eat out, I always end up taking a box home because I don't feel the need to finish what's on my plate. I'm also one of those persons who forgets to eat, especially on the weekends when both of us are home and my husband fed the child.

I believe your metabolism has so much to do with weight. Right after I had my son, I definitely had weight to lose, but about after a year, it started to just go away and 2 years later, I'm back in my size 4 pants.

We have a dog. She needs to be walked and likes her walk to be a mile. That's my exercise, other than chasing after my 2 year old.

I also think part of my luck is due to the way I see food: as a necessity to fuel up my body. I never get hungry before lunch, and if I'm busy, I forget to eat lunch. I have to remind myself it's time to feed the kids most days. I'm not anorexic, I just think I *really* learned to associate food= dirty dishes as a kid, and hate eating and messing up dishes!! (I was the designated kitchen cleaner in my home...)

Lastly, I've always had allergies and over time, I can't taste much anymore. Maybe if drug companies capitalized on reducing our ability to smell/ taste food, that might help people to overeat less too?

I know I'm lucky, and have immense respect for people who can stay on a diet to lose weight because I NEVER could when I was trying to lose baby weight.

Don't count on it.

I have no sense of smell and I'm still overweight (147 at 5'6)

Smell is related to taste, but people with no sense of smell can still taste things just fine- maybe even more accurately then those who are thrown off by scent.

Messing with taste- maybe, but that'd be a pretty crappy trade off just to look thinner! Not worth it.

Maybe skinny is the wrong word-that almost implies someone who if they lost a little more would look anorexic. Thin is a better word--and if I was a size 10 I know I would be thin since I'm so tall--I can dream!

OP here. Ok, I like food too much. But after reading your responses, I'm going to work out 30 minutes a day. I started yesterday and continued today. I got to tell you. I'm in a better mood. I'm actually happier - something about working out!

I started drinking more tea (that yogi tea is great!).

I'm going to come back to this strand during my "weak" moments. That's probably every day
