Alternate take: You may be lazy or you don’t care about your kids. |
You are clearly one of the a-holes that people like PP don’t feel comfortable speaking against. If you only knew how many people you think are your friends roll their eyes at you behind their backs. |

I'm coaching rec basketball so I get the spreadsheet with all the kids and their "special requests." You aren't supposed to request specific teams or pairings because it makes it hard for us coaches to draft fair, equal teams. About 2/3 of Crossfield families ignore that and put in requests to only be on a team with other Crossfield girls, or with specific girls. Every other school got the message and maybe only 10% of them put in those kids of comments.
FYI, we will not be honoring their requests. Kids get drafted wherever they end up based on evaluations. We also keep evaluations from the end of last year so we can tell when you instruct your kid to tank during tryouts to be picked up in a later round and get a better team. If you want that kind of competition play county or AAU. Rec is not the place for that. Sorry to ramble, but that goes to show how out of whack the sports bias is for Crossfield compared to other schools in the area. |
My kids play CYA rec basketball and ALL the teams are like this. Every year, several of the teams have the same core group of kids. Usually coach, assistant coach, and a couple of their friends that get drafted first. It's not just one school. |
So why don't you just take all of that information (including names) off of the spreadsheet and just sort by number? |
Some kids won't show up for games/practice if they aren't paired with their requested carpool buddy. At least with the info on the sheet we can make the coach select the pair in their appropriate rounds, rather than get one and then try to trade for the other one after the draft and unbalance the teams. The sheet has which kids can't practice on what nights, etc. Also most of the coaches have been coaching the same pool of kids for years. They know who everyone is and can put it in their notes at the assessments. Might as well put all the info out there for all the coaches rather than leave newer coaches at a disadvantage. |
Obviously the coach and assistant coach will have their kids on their teams. At least we grade the kids and make them take their own kids in the round they would have been picked. I'm telling you my CYA spreadsheet has 12/20 Crossfield kids with special requests to be on other Crossfield kids' teams, while no other school has more than 2 special requests except Poplar Tree at 6/21 kids having those requests. |

The forms for rec teams allow you to out down people you want to be with, even the ones that draft. We are at Fox Mill and have always listed the kids my kid wants to play with. It makes the sport more fun for the kids and helps with carpooling. This clearly happened with baseball. The draft was a joke as there were teams that were 95% the same from season to season. DH did not try and keep just the kids he liked and ended up coaching the team with all the kids other coaches didn’t want. His draft stories were that it was less of a draft and more of a “I have this reason for keeping this list of 9 kids.”
Soccer was just as bad. If you started rec soccer at 8 you were guaranteed to be on the team with all the late starters or just moved in kids and to get destroyed. You either figured out what team your kids friends were on and requested that exact practice schedule and those kids or you were destined to play on the only team that had not been playing together since 4, maybe 5. |

Do we know when the school board is going to vote on the final maps to put this unnecessary $hitshow to bed for a couple of years?
Also, anyone have a plan to fight the perpetual boundary changes that are now required under policy 8130? The board should revert to the old way of doing things (making only necessary changes), and if they don’t, then the boundary changes will continue to dominate their schedules and bandwidth and crowd out other things on their to do list. |
| I think final vote is mid January but we still have “scenario 5” (what BRAC gives Reid) and “scenario 6” (what Reid gives SB) to go. Then I guess if SB makes changes before vote… |
Then you are perpetuating this and should stop. What grades by the way? |
| Does anyone know if they will do a share out of the final BrAc recommendation to Reid? Or update tool with it? |
This is a lot of private, specific, identifiable information you are posting online to a widely read public message board about other people's minor children. Surely that information is confidential. You should not be a coach if you are so loose with the information of children in your league. |
None of the PP's here. But, that is not personal information under any circumstances. |
