Fed Hiring Freeze

Basically they said there's no news and that if I was going to be given a FO, they'd get in touch. I am utterly desperate to leave my current job (non-fed) and am trying to stay hopeful, but it's hard. The position I was given a TO for is in the press office of a USDA agency. So I may be doomed on two counts--job itself not considered critical, and agency facing budget cuts. I am still stunned and sad that I FINALLY got the chance to re-join the feds in a dream job, and Trump took it away.

I too was told by USDA that there is no news on my TO that was issued before the freeze.

USDA is not approving final job offers for anyone who is not already a USDA employee.

$&^%&^!! Really? Now or even after the freeze? You don't have to disclose details, but are you in a position to know this for sure?

Yes, I'm a hiring manager. I have someone I wanted to bring on board caught in the freeze, and I was told it's not gonna happen since they weren't an internal candidate.

This does not mean we can hire, we were all given very specific guidance.

Yeah, as one of the people waiting to hear about my pre-freeze TO, I hope people will come back and let us know when they start hearing any news--good or bad.

So far only State dept has issued public guidance and will still be in a hiring freeze.

Not State, but we were told our agency will remain under a freeze too. We expect budget cuts and have to submit a restructuring plan aimed at reducing staffing levels. Until more is certain, no hiring. We aren't going to bring people on board just to lay them off in a few months.

Not the PP, but same at my agency (smaller independent, frankly don't want to share the name as we're under the radar of most of the fed bashing by this WH). We know we have to cut somehow with the proposed FY18 budget, retirements might just be enough, but can't take the risk of filling open positions right now. Have TOs from January that we probably can't fill. My guess is the freeze will persist for awhile, unofficially or otherwise.

Anyone heard from DOJ that had a revoked TO before freeze lifted?
