Fed Hiring Freeze

Is CIA still hiring? They never post concrete "openings" in the traditional sense - only potential roles regardless of what the funding situation is.

Does anyone with insight care to share the current situation?

So far only State dept has issued public guidance and will still be in a hiring freeze.

Any idea why?

Not State, but we were told our agency will remain under a freeze too. We expect budget cuts and have to submit a restructuring plan aimed at reducing staffing levels. Until more is certain, no hiring. We aren't going to bring people on board just to lay them off in a few months.

Which agency?

Same question... do you mind to share which agency? Thanks!

DC DHS component facing 25-30% cut. Programs being cut. Positions in limbo not being filled. Positions downgraded upon vacancy, or removed. Retirement buyouts not enticing eligibles holding out for more.

For what it's worth, I emailed my HR contact (I accepted a TO right before the freeze) and he responded basically saying they're still trying to figure it all out and they haven't been give guidance yet about how to deal with selectees in limbo. This is for USDA.

I wonder how long this will take to figure out
I was really hoping once the freeze was lifted we TO people might hear something soon...

Hiring freeze still in place at Treasury.

Hiring freeze also still in place at HHS. I guess we have to suffer until the ACA is repealed.

All of HHS is frozen except for very rare positions in rare circumstances that no one has explained yet.

State still frozen with zero guidance. We had to hear it from Tillerson on the news. Disgraceful.

Terrible-so sorry folks...

Any news from DOJ yet

i won a contract with DOE so while the freeze sucks for feds its awesome for us IT contractors. I also negotiated a real good rate as well($250 per hour on 2 year IDIQ vehicle) for a team of 4.

If You are who I'm thinking of, I'd never say anything. I hope you know I'm not an a-hole.

It's complicated because even though the hiring freeze was lifted, the agencies are supposed to be coming up with plans to cut their staff. For this reason, there's obviously not going to be much hiring for most agencies.
