Delay for rain and open on time for falling snow? Already an inch here

Wow, an entire inch.

Not all of us live on flat, plowed roads!! An inch of slippery snow could mean lots of accidents. Some of us live in rural areas, and are commuting from far away. I am keeping my kid home as I work from home and it is possible.

The rural areas aren't going to get an inch of snow.

The side roads that weren't treated have relatively little traffic. People won't get into accidents. Especially not anyone with common sense.

Are you serious? People can't even drive in the rain. We're upcounty where there is an inch of snow on the ground and it is currently snowing. My kids bus was 15 minutes late today. A 2 hour delay would have been the right call for today, maybe even no school today. Ridiculous.

D for trolling. This is a southern storm; upcountry is getting less than downcounty.

Kids in Clarksburg were waiting for 45 minutes at the bus stop.

This was such a bad call. Drove one kid to school and witnessed accidents and untreated lot. Other kid rode bus and overhead dispatcher desperately pleading over the radio signal for drivers to be careful entering and exiting that school’s bus loop because it is steep and was untreated.

May I remind you Taylor’s literal own words from his apology this week:

“As always, we leaned heavily into one priority today: the safety of our students and all MCPS staff. The forecast called for the high probability of a wintry mix, including freezing rain, and a bit of snow—and in our area, even small amounts of ice and snow can make early-morning travel dangerous.”

Anonymous wrote:This was to keep a football game going. A delay would have forced a closure and the game off. You should be mad.

Why would that make me mad? Football is important.

Typical 'murican. Football is important, but eff them kids trying to get to school without crashing in snow and ice, amirite?

No, you're wrong. Football is important because it is a state championship game. Stop being such a histrionic wimp.

What football game at 7 AM in the morning? I’m very confused about the football game argument maybe somebody can fill me in.

A lot of accidents being reported by Mr Piringer. Two hour delay for rain but no change for legit snow and ice………….. an “educated” decision?

Look at his post history. Accidents happen without snow, too.

What a moronic response. We arent talking about drunk drivers we are talking about children being pit in harms way by the school

Why are kids in Maryland unable to go to school in precipitation, but kids in New England and the Midwest do so all the time? We have the same salt trucks they do. What’s the difference?

Do you have snow tires on right now? My grandpa in Massachusetts does.

You don’t need snow tires here JFC

Thats the difference. They are prepared and have a higher budget. We are unprepared. Zero analytical skills there pp.

Uh, no. We’re perfectly capable here to deal with this nothing burger. No analytical skills needed.

Bro, a simple look at the beltway right now proves how wrong you are. Congratulations on being an argumentative douche on the internet, though.

No place has perfect road management. In other areas, people continue to travel in these minor squalls. No one is expecting perfectly clean roads. If you’re not comfortable, stay home.

SO close!

"If it's not safe, stay home" is what you need to say there, and that would've been perfect justification for the 2-hour delay we didn't get this morning.

Plenty of areas are perfectly passable.

So if you’re personally uncomfortable, you do you.

University blvd is a major thoroughfare. It is also an iced-over parking lot this morning, and at least one school bus was involved in an accident.

Take your "you do you" and shove it. Consider that you live in community with other people, clownshoes.

Yes, it’s cool that people can choose to keep their kids home, Chicken Little

Aren't you so brave! So BOLD! Calling names on a mommy board. Wow. Strong.

Sorry I believe in collective welfare and public safety. Glad you live in a bubble somewhere it's all about you and only you. Idiot.

Then you should support getting kids to school. Which was perfectly safe to do today.

They'll live. The cold is good for them.

Northwood HS teacher here. Half my class for period 1 didn’t show up. Probably because of the long commute + we have a pep rally today. The roads were slippery and the school parking lot was untreated but I made it in ok.

Yes there was no logical reason as to why they did not delay school today. He made a dangerous decision and he needs to own it.

No, it's not. Stop trolling and gaslighting. It's still snowing in Clarksburg.

Seriously. Where exactly are the links to reports and pics of the heavy storm everyone is screaming about? I’ve looked at local news and weather, and it’s is minimal snow basically everywhere. Inconvenience /=/ emergency.

I'm not sure if my middle schooler's bus came. I tried to take him, but 355 is a parking lot.

Having to be careful while driving is not a reason to close schools!

It's particularly ridiculous when you see people complaining who took pictures while driving.
