Yes! I saw him a few times come into the cafeteria and walk around talking to the kids. He made some jokes about being bald and the kids thought it was so funny. In the past, on the occasional times I have popped in for lunch, I have never seen the old principal do this. He seemed to just walk around the school and look around but didn't really stop to interact with the kids, of course this is just my observation.

+1 the old principal was flat with the kids.

Mr. Meier is very interactive with the kids. I wouldn’t mind if he continues!

I am sad to see Marotta go, and yes the kids seem to like the interim principal. I am in favor of redemption but I do not see how Mr. Coch can return when the student body has seen his mug shot and I had to explain driving drunk to my young elementary school kid. I think the school could benefit from some new young energy to help build a stronger community. There really is a divide at the school, especially among the AAP/Gen Ed kids in the upper grades.

Seems like many of us are on the same page. We all like Meier and Marotta and want the AAP/pbl-gened whatever divide to lessen. Hopefully that information can be conveyed to whoever makes these decisions. If there was a way for them to keep either Marotta or Meier on as principal that would be worth pursuing. Hopefully people who can attend speak up at the meeting today and some progress can be made.

I also think Mr. Meier is nice. I go to school once a week to volunteer and have seen him many times, he always says thanks to me when he walks in the school hallways. He replied my email ( regarding my special need kid) too.

Apparently he was a beloved principal at his old school before retorting. I am glad to see the students and staff warming up to him this year.

I’m not at the school weekly or anything, but I have volunteered often enough this past year. I have always seen Mr. Meier walking around whenever I’ve been there. One thing he did that I thought was really cool was call me one day to tell me that my kindergartner was in his office and doing a great job reading to him. He made a big deal about how great of a job he did, how I should be so proud, etc. It was of course for the benefit of my child who could hear everything Mr. Meier was saying, and I know it made my child feel very proud of themselves and I’m sure it’s something they will remember when they get older.

That’s awesome! It sounds like Mr. Meier is doing a fantastic job. I absolutely think the school needs new energy at this point.

Coch was briefly the interim principal at Thoreau MS during the sex abuse scandal’s early days (Snell). I’m certain he was placed there as a feather in his cap/professional experience - always figured he was on a great career trajectory.

I hope he is getting help and finds another career field or exits gracefully from FCPS.

He absolutely ruined the good thing he had going on at Navy. I feel sorry for his family and the entire Navy community. Let this be a lesson - do not drink and drive.

I don’t understand the posts gushing over Mr. Meier. At the AAP orientation meeting, Mr Meier said that he can’t wait to leave and get back to being retired. I was taken aback because no one asked, he volunteered that and he seemed sincere about it. I’m glad he’s getting his steps in by walking around the school, but don’t mistake that for commitment to Navy. He was asked to do something and he did it. I would love to have Coch back or see Marotta promoted.

Someone can do a good job and look forward to (re)retiring. The two are not mutually exclusive. He was asked to come out of retirement and step in last minute and he did so. Most would have said no.

Apparently Marotta being promoted is a no go according to the genius idiot PP.

Probably in response to having to deal with AAP parents. I don't blame him.

How much you want to bet that’s not going to happen no matter how badly you want it?!
