So many hate Thanksgiving and turkey. For theove of god, brine your turkey people. Follow the NYT's brining recipe to a T. I am absolutely salavating at the throught of a nice, very tasteful and not dry turkey using that brine recipe and topped with gravy. Soooooooooo good.

Tried it. Still would rather have any other type of meat.

Yes thank you. I get so sick of the people who constantly claim if you don't like Thanksgiving food its only because it wasn't cooked correctly. Sorry but I have had it made by incredible chefs and its still not a great meal. Trust me no one is drooling over your dry brine or wet brine or whichever other method you are convinced makes it yummy. Its blah. Edible but not worth the effort and made because you are supposed to have on Thanksgiving. This is why no one ever wants it any other day than Thanksgiving.

We've actually made a roasted turkey with some of the traditional side dishes twice since the pandemic began. Once with a turkey from Giant, which was good. And once with a free range turkey ordered from a farm in upstate NY, which was absolutely delicious.

What does this say except you have exceptionally crappy choice in food? All this says to me is you are a mayo and bologna on white bread eater who doesn't really like eating. Eat to live and all that.

Or it could mean that *people are different*

Why are you turning a fun thread into something mean?

I do think the expensive stuff tastes better, but not enough for me to actually buy it. Store-brand butter is good enough for me. I feel the same way about wine. I can definitely tell the difference between a $100 bottle and a $20 one, but it's not that much better that I would actually spend $80 more.

Honestly, this. Kerrygold IS better, but I still rarely buy it.

Kerrygold is great and we buy from Costco so it is very affordable. When it comes to using butter for cooking or baking we use the land o lakes brand.

I am the opposite. I save KerryGold for baking and use the cheap stuff for everyday stuffs

I support this message. It's much better to eat whole foods and not processed substitutes. The worst offender in my opinion is fake dairy.

Drinking almond milk should be a crime -- almond trees require an insane amount of water.

+1. There have been documentaries and investigative articles about the psycho almond industry and how it basically dictates, and ruined, land and water in California. Those pieces inexplicably didnt really get a cultural foothold but are worth a deep dive.

Oh and I’ll add that even with all that aside, almonds are the sawdust flavor of the nut world.

I hate almonds too

Your posts all say you're an asshole. I would rather eat bland food with pp

This reminds me of Chidi on The Good Place. He thought he was sent to hell because he drank almond milk.

This.

And I'll raise you and say no one needs to eat animal products, period.

Tell it to my anemia. I can eat meat OR I can get iron transfusions.

In case we are going down that road, if someone is motivated to post the "iron content" of spinach, please also consider the bioavailability of it and include that in your calculations.

There is a lot of iron in plants. We can't access a good deal of it, so it's hard to raise iron levels in the blood. Meat has highly biovailable iron, so though the "iron content level" may even be lower, the effect is much greater.

Consider trying a nice fresh natural peanut butter lightly spread inside a sharp cheddar quesadilla.

Ew WTF?? Now that is controversial.

I KNOW.

But think about trying it sometime. It's not what you would expect at all.

You sweet thing. You really are pushing this!

OK, we might need a separate thread for the people you want to win over.
I have Ortega soft tortillas, shredded cheddar cheese and Jif. Will that work? Or do I need top tier ingredients?

Sure! I think natural peanut butter is better, but I be that would work. Or at least be worth a go.

How sweet of you to be willing to try! (I might just be crazy. I think I may have said it was the best thing my ex left me? Never would have tried on my own.)

Sorry about late reply -- I've been ODing on Political Forum and living in the land of migraines.

Omg I’m invested. I really want PP to come back and tell us what she thought. There is no way I could bring myself to try this.

I have no desire to try that but I always liked peanut butter with a thin spread of butter on the sandwich too...makes the peanut butter creamier. I still make it (but only when no one else is around)

But did the PP try it?? I still want to know what she thought! I saw one poster said it was ok and then added salsa. Which kinda just made it sound so much worse. I might sneak this into the next quesadilla I make, feed it to my DH, and see what he does...

PP here with the Jif/shredded cheddar and ortega kit. I have NOT yet, but will after my workout today. That's a promise.

I am so excited!

For me, it's only really good with extra shard cheddar and natural peanut butter, but people can try all sorts of things and see. More data points. Love it.

Bacon
Hate the smell and taste. If I accidentally eat it I cannot swallow. I have to spit it out. I am not vegetarian.

Pork is the best meat/animal.

Sausages, ribs, cured meats, and chops. Some of the very best soups use pork bones/broth. Amazing smoked and brined chops are way better than nearly most steaks, and I've had A5 kobe while in Kobe Japan. Give me a good chop any day of the week over steak or chicken. I do love fish though, so I can't quite state that pork is better than fish.
