The consequences to me personally are likely very small. If the US Government wants me to consider the consequences to others, they can direct the travel companies to refund my money and I will gladly stay home. If they say I can travel, I'm going. |
We are scheduled to go to a Western Caribbean cruise with stops in Jamaica and Grand Cayman the first week of April. We had booked in November so prior to all of this happening. Our kids are really looking forward to this and we did not get travel insurance. We will be loosing 8k if we cancel right now. This is our first vacation in 8 years. What should we do? |
As of right now, I'm still going on my April 6th cruise to the Bahamas. I have medical travel insurance but not cancel for any reason. |
But...but...GOVERNMENT OVERREACH. Oh, it doesn't matter when it affects your bank account huh? |
I'm not afraid to go. If YOU are afraid to travel then YOU are free to stay home. See how that works? So far I have not seen the US Government asking healthy people to refrain from travel to non-banned areas. |
I would wait to decide right before your day of departure, if canceling now versus later doesn't save you any money. Or, you could try calling the cruise to see if you can get a credit to use another time. It completely sucks!! FWIW, we are supposed to go to the Caribbean in a few weeks and we'll lose $ on flights and hotel. My kids can talk of nothing else and I don't have the heart to tell them, at this point, that it may be canceled. As of now, we are still going. |
Cancun first week of April- haven’t considered canceling.. am I crazy? |
Great, go. Please remember that fearlessness the whole trip and absolutely do not get on Twitter/Social Media and start crying for your representatives to send a military plane to evacuate you and your family out in case of an emergency. That is on YOU. |
I just called our pediatrician to ask for a sanity check and I suggest anyone else who is concerned to do the same. Mine said they’re not advising anyone to cancel travel plans right now except to the places where the CDC says don’t go and that before you travel you should check what the CDC website says about the place you’re going. They said they’re not telling people to cancel flights but they would recommend taking a little bit of extra precaution such as wiping down the tray tables, washing your hands, and trying not to touch your face. |
^^ that was the advice for my family of 5. My sister will still fly this weekend. My parents are not concerned about themselves flying but they may reconsider taking my 91 year old grandmother on a flight in April. |
I would cancel. |
Sound and SANE advice. |
The CDC waits until the last minute to make any official notifications on travel warnings. They just listed ITALY as a Level-3 Travel Warning 2 days ago. Meanwhile Italy has been the epicenter of European coronavirus outbreaks for a month now. https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/traveler/none/italy https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/notices/warning/coronavirus-italy By the time they get around to other countries you'll be days away or into your trip. |
If you want to cancel your trip, be my guest. |
Planned trip to San Francisco for spring break week after next. Debating at the moment and leaning against. So much hassle and worry. |
