Why so extreme of a reaction to it? "Profoundly stupid"? Don't people have more important things to get upset about? |
Thanks for proving why this name is lame. |
Why have such a negative reaction to the name of a school that has been there since 1925? Sure, one of the namessakes may not have been the best choice, but the school seems to be doing okay-even with the name. Why spend all this money and come up with a name that appears to be a poor choice to most people--just in the name of "progress?" |
Because there are people in Arlington who think it will demonstrate they are “progressive” even though APS is rife with inequality. |
Welcome to the Woke Show. |

Did anyone else hear the interview on WMAL this morning about the renaming process? A member of the community renaming committee was interviewed who is actually in support of renaming the school but nevertheless described essentially a corrupt process (her words, not mine) in which the suggested new name was "planted" (her word, not mine) and people who were in agreement with renaming the school but not Washington-Loving were verbally shut down and it was suggested to one of them that they resign from the committee. She also said the results of the APS survey on renaming were that the overwhelming majority wanted to keep the school name as is, followed by naming after a different Lee and that by far the smallest percentage of respondents wanted to replace Lee or change the name entirely.
The Arlington Way. What a joke. |
Why isn't the irony that it is a high-performing, highly desired, highly diverse school sufficient justice and reason to keep the name? |
| Not surprising. |
A school that has done well since 1925. Yeah, makes perfect sense. |
Let’s just bring slavery back. Legalize the rape, murder, pedofilia, and mistreatment of people based on color just as the Washington and Lee did? You’d really like that wouldn’t you? |
NO! But, it sounds like you also wish to get rid of Washington. Of course, slavery is unacceptable and all those other things you mention. But, you really think we should get rid of Washington? Here is a little tidbit: lots of awful things have happened in the past. Good people have done terrible things. But, Washington is not honored for being a slave owner. He is honored for helping to create a country of liberty and freedom. Slavery was a horrible thing--but our government (which Washington helped found) enabled us to get rid of slavery. If you cannot understand that, then perhaps you should find a place to live that has never done anything wrong in the past. Please advise this forum of which country that might be. |
| The best and clearest statement would have been to name the school Washington-Lincoln. |
No let’s find some individuals who are not well known for doing so much evil. How much liberty and freedom did the the slaves George Washington had have? Robert E Lee was no worse a human being than George Washington. He may have been more of an intellectual. But his lifestyle proves he was just as barbaric. |
And I meant Washington was probably more intellectual. |
Not sure why anyone keeps arguing against either Washington or Loving. This is going to be another typical "Arlington Way' maneuver/ploy/ruse in which the SB pretends to be interested in the public's input, including those on the renaming committee, but all along has the name they want selected and will adopt, unfortunately for those who don't prefer Washington or Loving. Then they pretend they listened to all of us and pat themselves on the back for their virtue signaling. |
