That would result the largest pupil placement movement in FCPS history. |
They will likely look for ways to continue to curtail pupil placements. |
They would end up at Herndon as the closest AP school with openings. Language placements have been shut down. |
The best part would be if they only allowed pupil placement to Skyview for AP. |
Go back to the Coates boundary study. Assume Coates goes to Skyview. SPA map included student counts for Fox Mill not Crossfield. https://www.fcps.edu/sites/default/files/Coates-Area-Boundary-Maps.pdf Fox Mill base school boundary SPA : 32% west of 286=169 39% core site=210 24% change to Crossfield/South Lakes?=129 4% [juts into Dogwood] South Lakes? =25 So would they change the base school boundaries by moving SPA s to/from Fox Mill/Crossfield? Split feeders? |
That could be a possibility but I know Skyview is not available this year and kids wanting to pupil place out of SLHS are being sent to Herndon. The Language option for AP/Russian and AP/Japanese are no longer available. People who want to transfer from Herndon are only being given SLHS for IB. We had a friend who was pupil placing from Herndon who confirmed that the only option they had was SLHS for IB, there was not a language option which is what Herndon kids used to go to Langley for Russian. |
I'm glad they are eliminating these loopholes. I still think kids who have done language immersion for years should be allowed to pupil place for language, but no one else. |
So it's fine with you that some schools offer far more extensive language offerings than others, and kids at some schools will now have no way to access those courses. Got it. |
DP. Turns out comprehensive boundary reviews have unintended consequences, even for people who advocate for them. |
I had to read this a couple of times. But if I understand you're saying one by-product of the county-wide boundary review is a sharper focus on student transfers and ways in which FCPS can limit the number of kids transferring in and out of schools. The curtailment of student transfers will affect kids across FCPS, including at schools that aren't seeing any boundary changes. |
Ooooh you had your gotcha moment, do you feel soooooo gooood about your self, mama? Anyway, if you REALLY want my opinion, sweetheart, here it is: I think FCPS should offer the same base languages at every high school, and the high school that each language immersion elementary school is zoned to should offer that language (for example, South Lakes HS should offer Japanese because Fox Mill ES has Japanese immersion). What's your gotcha now, honey buns?? |
DP. Why are you so mean? Seriously? Your topical points are completely overshadowed by the pettiness of your response. |
Yikes, "mama," "sweetheart," and "honey buns," all in a single post. I think a restraining order may be needed. Anyway, when are they finally going to come out with the new boundary proposals for Skyview? They ought to be able to leverage the work done in the county-wide review, and have had plenty of time to get things rolling again. |
I think every school in FCPS offers Spanish and French then schools can offer two other languages. I think most schools offer 4 foreign languages, but I could be wrong about that. Those two additional languages differ from school to school. The language immersion languages, beyond Spanish and French, are German, Korean, and Japanese. I know some schools offer Russian and Mandarin. There are a variety of languages at HS. I know Japanese is offered at SLHS, Westfield, and Oakton. I believe Langley offers Japanese. Skyview will have it as well. Fox Mill and Great Falls offer the JI program, they feed into SLHS and Langley. Out of boundary kids for FMES JI program tend to attend SLHS, Westfield, and Oakton so Japanese makes sense at the HS that have it. Skyview is offering it because there are a god number of JI kids from FMES program opting in to Skyview. |
| I don’t really care about the languages offered at the South Lakes. When are they going to come out with revised boundary options for Skyview? |
