No clue. I am sure that they will be posted here as soon as people know where to find them.

I think the timeline says June........

Should have been October 2025.

Thought moving part of Westfield and Chantilly into Skyview was pretty much guaranteed and the bigger questions were whether they’d move part of South Lakes or Oakton into Skyview as well and then move parts of Chantilly and/or Centreville to back fill Westfield.

It’s seemed like most of the back and forth over the past several months has been whether Fox Mill or Crossfield made more sense to move into Skyview.

Problem:

Meren won't let Fox Mill move.
RIO seems to have some clout. But, Crossfield should move.

Meren doesn’t have veto power and she could agree to cede Fox Mill to Skyview if South Lakes gets the rest of Crossfield and maybe the Navy island in return. That would be a bit like the deal years ago to send Fox Mill from
Oakton to South Lakes, in return for which Oakton picked up part of Chantilly.

That would result the largest pupil placement movement in FCPS history.

The best part would be if they only allowed pupil placement to Skyview for AP.

That could be a possibility but I know Skyview is not available this year and kids wanting to pupil place out of SLHS are being sent to Herndon. The Language option for AP/Russian and AP/Japanese are no longer available. People who want to transfer from Herndon are only being given SLHS for IB. We had a friend who was pupil placing from Herndon who confirmed that the only option they had was SLHS for IB, there was not a language option which is what Herndon kids used to go to Langley for Russian.

I'm glad they are eliminating these loopholes. I still think kids who have done language immersion for years should be allowed to pupil place for language, but no one else.

So it's fine with you that some schools offer far more extensive language offerings than others, and kids at some schools will now have no way to access those courses. Got it.

Ooooh you had your gotcha moment, do you feel soooooo gooood about your self, mama?

Anyway, if you REALLY want my opinion, sweetheart, here it is: I think FCPS should offer the same base languages at every high school, and the high school that each language immersion elementary school is zoned to should offer that language (for example, South Lakes HS should offer Japanese because Fox Mill ES has Japanese immersion).

What's your gotcha now, honey buns??

DP. Why are you so mean? Seriously? Your topical points are completely overshadowed by the pettiness of your response.

The person I was responding to was being nasty, so I was nasty back. Got it? My points were valid. You know it, she knows it, it doesn't matter how I said it, I said it. Thanks, bye!

+100000

I hate this. I have a kid who will be affected by this one way or another. Very hard to make a decision without much to go on. They should have figured out the boundaries months ago. What a mess.

I have a feeling they won’t show us the potential options until much closer to final decisions. I think they realized that giving a really long window for input is going to make their jobs a lot harder. Look at what happened when they released the first few maps. They will leave just enough time for some performative amount of community input, but not months.

Waiting until families are starting to take vacations is a frequent strategy.

Agree, didnt they roll out the half day elementary school days over the summer?

This whole thing has been a mess. They should have either (1) announced all boundaries together and made it a required school for incoming freshman only or (2) waited to open it until fall 2027. Whatever they're doing now was idiotic.

I say this as a Crossfield parent who would be fine with my kids going to Skyview.

It has been an awful process but I am happy they are opening up next year. I say this as a very biased parent of a Fox Mill student who opted in.

I think it would be messy no matter when they opened and no matter how many kids they opened with. The mess would have been different but it would be there. A different group of people would be throwing a fit if they had set boundaries and required kids to attend next year. I would guess that some of the people throwing a fit this year would still be throwing a fit but it would be based on sympathy for the kids being moved because they don’t want their kids moved.

I think the board decided to separate the process out because they know that this portion is going to be more disruptive and they want less focus on it. Fewer people will be paying attention because they are not impacted and more kids are going to be moved at the HS and MS level.

I understand what you’re saying but they really set Skyview up to be a niche school for a couple of years when the alternative would have been to postpone opening it until it had fixed boundaries and could accommodate three grades and offer a fuller range of activities.

It is what it is, but it’s troubling that this alternative wasn’t vetted in public by the School Board. They rarely seem to focus on what really matters to people.

What matters to parents is different. Skyview opening matters to the parents of at least 650 students, probably more by the time school starts. Overall, it matters to the parents of kids at over crowded schools or schools at capacity in that region. People who are moved from schools that they like, which is all 5 of the schools under consideration, will not be happy. Parents of younger kids who are moved are more likely to be happy in 5 years when the school is more established. There are some decisions that cannot make even half the population happy because it doesn't impact them directly and they would rather the money be used on their school. See the spending per pupil thread. See every thread complaining about specialized programs for kids that are struggling or advanced leaving the parents of kids in the middle feeling ignored. See the threads on CIP money being spent.

They bought the school because it was needed and it was being sold for a very good price. Once they bought it, they needed to use it. People would be up in arms if they let it sit for another year.

They should have set the boundaries and sent the 9th and 10th graders to the school. They didn't. So yes, the first few years are going to feel different because of kids opting in and having a smaller school. In two years they will have boundaries and the class size will be normal. THey will probably have kids moving into the area who will expand the size of the current classes. They will have kids from outside the 5 schools originally consider join the class. They are going to have more then 650 kids next year.

So many words.

Just admit the roll-out is confusing as hell and say eventually things will sort out. Sheesh.

We say that and you keep complaining. So maybe more words will help.
