Money grab

It's only a "money grab" if they get your money and your kid gets no value from it. God forbid people set things up to A) provide additional opportunities to coach and teach kids (which most coaches do for little or no money) and; B) earn a little extra income. With the exception of a few clubs that run a number of tournaments I would say that most coaches and programs do what they do for the love of the sport and teaching kids. These coaches are teachers and professionals that give up their "off time" to coach and for someone to call it a money grab is just unfair. If you ever feel like you are being taken and charged too much, I would imagine most programs would listen to your complaints or issues if done respectfully and offer you a full or partial refund so there is no ill feelings.

Today marks a change in civility I hope for our country, we can start right here on DCUM.

Ha! You made a good point about the dedication of coaches but lost your credibility by bringing in your political agenda. Take that to another forum.

Since this is the first time for it, shouldn't we see how it goes this year and get feedback from its results, players and family before passing judgement?

What political agenda? Is civility a political agenda? I assumed that civility is bipartisan, but I guess that doesn't fit your narrow view. It's ok to have a different take, but the day civility to everyone becomes a political agenda rather than a universal one is a sad day for all. As for me I am a lifelong conservative but I am civil and I listen always and don't get down to reductionist activities and nastiness.

The political agenda was saying that "today" marks a change in civility, implying that the incoming leaders are more civil than the outgoing. So far I am not seeing it, but place to debate it is not here.

I guess Francis does not see the irony of calling people narrow and nasty in a post lecturing everybody about civility!

Whatever.

What time is the 13U tryout? Is it prior to 14U.

As I am apparently "Francis" (which anytime there is a Stripes reference, I have to applaud), let me clarify. Saying someone has a narrow view is civil, as is disagreement when it is done without malice. Civility doesn't mean complete agreement, it means politeness and courtesy in speech or word. And saying that I don't get down to reductionist activities and nastiness isn't a comment about the original commenter but rather a general statement about discourse lately on both sides of the aisle. The only directed comment was the word narrow. Which I think is fair to say that someone had a narrow perspective where my mention of today and a return to civility had someone try to discredit everything said because I clearly had a political agenda.

This is a forum for all types of discussions and I think it is a great place to agree and disagree. I for one feel like parents have a responsibility to only spend money on things they feel they get a return. If the return is just your kids enjoyment that is fine, it doesn't need to be D1 coaches knocking down your doors. We are parents and all presumably have kids that play(ed), support them, spend what makes sense to spend and remember it's for them not for you. I have had a number of events fall short of my expectations at a variety of price points but I don't fault the organizers, I just know that some are going to be better than others and those that fall short will only get my money once.

Enjoy and have a civil night.

Civility is not allowed by these Socialists, Francis. They have to bring politics into everything.
