Fox has just reported that the US is sending a chartered plane Sunday to Wuhan to evacuate US citizens and diplomats.
The US consulate has contacted citizens offering them one of the 230 seats on the plane. https://www.foxnews.com/health/coronavirus-us-citizens-diplomats-evacuated-wuhan |
You guys were doing the exact same thing when Ebola was having it’s run in 2014. Doom and gloom. Meanwhile, the flu killed more than 80,000-please read that number again-last year. It infected hundreds of thousands more. If we started calling this something like “Virus 927x” instead of the flu, would these numbers sound scarier? Because it is much more serious than Wuhan. Please get a grip, and vaccinate your kids so you don’t have to face something unimaginable like this:

Then why is China quarantining their entire country? |
I have posted at least once about influenza being our real danger. However, I admit to avidly following the coronavirus news. Contagion is a big concern in my non-health related field so I am finding the course of the outbreak and the responses fascinating from a professional point of view. |
The flu kills far more people in number (so far) and is not something to take lightly. But Coronavirus is killing 3%, 4%, more... of people who contract it. That is materially different, and scary. It's not just about the number of deaths, it's about mortality rates and spread. |
Latest situation update on China - https://twitter.com/SunKaiyuan/status/1221120035252527106
1408 confirmed cases, 2032 suspected cases, 39 recoveries and 42 deaths nationally There are several important developments in the past day: 1. Many locations outside Wuhan started reporting cases with no link to Wuhan 2. A cluster of 3 family infections reported in Shanxi(??) 3. Detailed information on confirmed cases in Tianjin suggests personnels work on China's high-speed trains are at high risk of infection 4. a few cases of children starts to pop up All seems to suggest substantial H2H transmissibility |
Good to know. |
China is a highly competent country that’s supposed to replace the US as the world’s greatest power. I’m sure they’ve got this under control. |
Agreed. For virus it can help lessen the strength of the illness or sick period. |

Have you seen the emerging videos from their hospitals? It is a nightmare. Anyone who is advocating for a free medicare for all should watch it. |
I'm not sure how well we would handle being the epicenter of a pandemic/epidemic, but you are implying that it's preferable for people who cannot afford a hospital copay to stay home and remain untreated. Is that what you mean? |
Ugh. So do we not go to the lunar celebrations? Is that panicking or wise? I can’t decide.... am leaning toward not going. But what would you do? |
Where are the celebrations? |
