Oh California

How are Republicans so heartless and unprincipled? They’re a true embarrassment to humanity.

Eh…kind of old news. These people have been ripping off CA for decades and now are world art collectors who brag about. They bought most CA politicians years ago and no one cares.
They use more water than all of LA combined.

If people are on a cancel kick - they are a no brainer but people like Fiji water and 300 other products they produce.

They're blaming Newsom because he wants to run for POTUS. This is the "swiftboats" campaign against him starting. Plain and simple. MAGAs don't care about CA burning other than to use it to score political points, whether they are lies or not.

Newsom has exactly zero chance at a successful POTUS run. California politicians are very unpopular outside of California. Just ask Biden. The VP he threw into the 2024 election fire at the last minute was a Californian and she couldn't get over the California/Biden hurdle to beat the worst candidate in American history. Nothing associated with California or Biden will do well nationally in the current environment just as nothing politically associated with Trump has ever done well.

I think AOC is the future of the Democrat party. She is dynamic and plays well on TV. Unlike Harris, AOC’s thinking/speech etc is very clear and to the point. I listened to Harris closely, but it was muddled. I think AOC should be paired w/another Squad member, or a gay man, to check the DEI boxes. This would give American a true choice in the next election.

So why is it when corporations make risky investments or other bad decisions that cost the millions of dollars, they can write that off on their taxes- thus getting taxpayers to subsidize those decisions.

But now when there is an issue in a democratic state, the GOP want conditions or “safeguards” against bad decision making that was years in the making (and such decisions were seemingly generally supported by the local community as seen in the low turnover rates of their politicians).

Can we get conditions/safeguards against corporate bad decision making too?

Also, Biden gave Texas federal aid when their state power company lost power during a winter storm back in 2021. The governor even asked the that the electric company (ERCOT) be investigated. Ted Cruz still went on his Mexican vacation though (so not quite Ghana) and got nailed for it. But were there any calls for conditions or safeguards then? Republicans should be very careful about the precedents they are setting…..

There is a reason why the fire chief said what she said during an interview. Whether the fire started by global warming or arson or the Santa Ana winds that happen this time is another discussion. The reality is they were not prepared and if you know that you have issues with global warming all the more reason not to cut off water from the north, make sure you are prepared in areas that are vulnerable, have a go to plan with planes etc-some of this stuff took all week. Why are they forcing fireworks from out of state do emissions testing first? This is an emergency just let them in. This has to not happen again. The concern is the progressives not willing to address some of the things that can mitigate fire if it happens. California is a liberal state but even liberal people are agreeing something needs to be reimagined. It is amazing how feelings change when you not only not have a house but no insurance or schools. It is a lot.

+1

Facts matter.

Made up maga “facts” do not count.

I do not believe that the fire chief is a Trump voter.

I don't know what she is, but she is going to come out of this smelling like roses. She filleted the mayor before the mayor could do it to her. Now she is untouchable. Great political move.

I think it is the scale and known existing risk in this one example of California.
Insurance companies have been exiting for years prior warning of risk exposure and California leadership did very little to address the exit of commercial insurance and draconian policies. Forcing high fire risk home owners into FAIR (exposing the state to the risk) or no insurance at all.

To top it off, California collected 220.59B in state taxes in 2023.
The state spent 234.6B

Not many states can over spend their tax income 14B - but they can and do when they have a surplus and spend it on very “out there left” programs not many states would never consider.

So while do not favor strings attached to disasters for any state - because California has a habit of some crazy expensive social programs it is fair to not want the other 49 states to fund any of those programs not many states would or could afford.

Well the first swift boat campaign video is in the can. The screaming woman who came after Newsome got the response "we have to do better." That phrase is going to haunt him. Any republican candidate: "Gavin Newsome -- we have to do better."

Knowing that over 70 million Americans voted for Trump, how can you type your comment with a straight face? You may not like most of their policies, but try to not just spew absurdities.

DP. Trump did not get a majority of the vote. MAGA is racists, low iq, uninformed and poor. Trump is low iq but rich and has surrounded himself with billionaires. When the economy turns Trump and MAGA are done.

But you can't deny that over 70 million voters (49.9% of voters) cast their ballots for Trump and yet you post "MAGA is racists, low iq, uninformed and poor."

The average IQ is 100 and most Americans read at the 5th grade level. What’s the disconnect?

An average IQ is not a low IQ. It also doesn't mean a voter is racist. Will add that many adults reading at a 5th grade level or lower are Democrats -- not unique to Republicans.

I agree with the stupid theory and then I realize 80 million people voted for Biden in 2020 so I reckon most of us are stupid. I ain't voting for any more 78 year old people. That's for sure! Hi Larry.

Fortunately, we have four years to push physicians into cardiology programs to deal with the millions of heart attacks that pairing would create. However, joining the Letters Community with AOC could come up with some interesting initials.
