Isn’t government who gives marriage certificate ?
So, marriage is governments business.

But why does that need to be the case? Remove the legal meaning from marriage, and let it be a social and religious institution, not a legal one.

Marriage is a legal union that is written into numerous laws, tax codes, estate laws, policies etc A civil union is no where close to the same thing. I don’t think people understand how broad and complicated this is and how much it matters.

Religion should never define it as there is the fundamental separation of church and state in this country. You are free to get married in whatever church you want but you still get a marriage license from your local government. This license is valid in all 50 states. You don’t have to get remarried when you vacation in another state or move.

For those of you who are anti gay marriage, why on earth should you be afforded the privilege f marriage while denying it to a gay couple? What makes your relationship superior and theirs inferior?

Has someone claimed to be anti-gay marriage here? Kind of sounds like you're just itching for a fight.

Heidi Starr’s 9-year-old daughter last week was moments away from making the shot-put throws that would determine whether she advanced to the next level of competition. Then, a 67-year-old man took to the field and stood at the top of the throwing circle, stopping the elementary school track-and-field event in British Columbia, Starr said.

The man accused the 9-year-old of being a boy or transgender and demanded Starr, 47, provide a birth certificate proving her daughter was a girl, she told The Washington Post, adding that the man’s wife called her and her ex-wife — the girl’s other mother — “genital mutilators.”

...Tesar interrupted the event by taking the field and blocking shot-putters from throwing, Starr said.

Tesar addressed the volunteer overseeing the event but loudly enough so Starr could hear from 15 to 20 feet away. He asked if the event was girls-only, Starr said. When she replied that it was for fourth-grade girls, Tesar allegedly asked why boys were throwing, pointing at Starr’s daughter and another girl.

That’s when Starr intervened, saying something like, “Excuse me, you’re pointing at my daughter, who is a girl.”

No, the man said, according to Starr, adding: “She’s a boy.” He allegedly added that the other girl was too, causing her to run away. Starr insisted that her 9-year-old was a cisgender girl, leading the man to hold his hands up to make air quotes while saying, “all right, a ‘girl,’” according to Starr. Tesar allegedly said that, if their daughter wasn’t a boy, she was “obviously trans.”

“This event is for real girls,” he said, according to Starr.

Josef Tesar persisted, demanding proof that their daughter was a girl, specifically a birth certificate, Starr said.

“It rocked our entire family,” she added, the most profound effect afflicting her daughter. “She was shaking and crying and beside herself that whole day, in and out of tears the whole night until bedtime.”"

I don't understand the point you're making. Are you suggesting there aren't statistics to support that trans people are bullied and victimized, not just with shouting but actual violent crimes?

There might not be a ton of 9yo cis girls who are mistaken for trans girls at sporting events and verbally assaulted by senior citizens, but that's a pretty specific situation. Trans people deal with it frequently.

There is fundamental disagreement over what boy is, what girl is. Used to be common language.

The idea that sex is a spectrum is odd and goes against common sense. Spectrum implies there is a somewhat smooth distribution across the spectrum. When put on a graph it should look something like a bell curve or a wave. Instead, over 98% of people are born genetically male or female. You can't call that a spectrum.

In other words, people are born male or female with exceptions. Intersex people exist and shouldn't be discriminated against, but they are the exceptions.

Similarly, almost everyone is born with 10 fingers. Some kids are born with 11 or 12 fingers. Some people lose fingers. Yet, we don't call people a bigot for stating people have 10 fingers.

I agree that sex is generally A or B - with some exceptions. But just because you were born female, it doesn’t mean you automatically have certain traits, or your biology requires you to wear certain kinds of clothes, or you should be entitled to a lesser slate of rights than males.

And yet, here in 2023, there are people that still believe being born female means you are intended by God to be nothing more than a helpmeet, your body belongs to the senior male in your life, you wear dresses below the knee and cover your hair because those men are also out of control deviants, and despite your abilities you have nothing of meaning to offer to the world beyond your ability to breed and clean.

And for boys! No tears, nothing pretty. Must be stoic and soulless, must be useless in the home, must provide. Must hate who your church leader tells you to hate. Can’t love other men without fear of death because someone 2500 years ago thought it was bad for men to sleep with boys.

Despite some people’s religious delusions about Gods will and helpmeets and finding whatever excuse they can come up with to sh*t on the wasted half of their population, there is NOTHING that is inherent to humankind or biology that requires our genders to be like this. Other societies have done better and recognized the “inbetweens” as their own special class. Others recognize a more full universe of expression and aren’t threatened by it like entitled little children.

After 40 years of feminism that has barely moved the needle, it it any wonder that people have given up on fighting our crap conception of gender and have just decided to make their parts line up with their traits?

Who does it hurt for a man to wear a dress. Seriously? Who? The only person I can find are the weak-minded deviants described above who have been taught they can’t control themselves around anything in a skirt and will be stoned to death if they find themselves lying with a man.

TL/DR: If you recognize yourself in this and are offended, GOOD. Stop holding humanity back with your ancient superstitions. Try to evolve, even if you believe Jesus rode dinosaurs. Thanks.

Transsexuality, IMHO, creates a totally different set of issues. Trans people deserve respect, dignity, and protection under the law. I think the whole bathroom controversy is pretty malarkey because trans people just want to pee, they don't want to touch your private parts. However, I am VERY against parents allowing their kids to have trans surgery, the same way that I am completely against parents putting their kids into gay conversion therapy. I also think there is merit to the concerns in sports which have been discussed ad nauseam.

Like all mammals, we as humans have breeds with distinctions; if trans women are women like I believe, then why is it so wrong to think of them as their own distinct breed of women? Please don't flame me because of course trans people are not animals, I just think that mammal science can give us some pointers on this.

Why do you think you should have any say in the personal medical decisions of parents and their kids? And, of course, gay conversion therapy is absolutely known to be cruel and harmful. Transition is not. You just disagree with it.

Trans gender affirming care IS conversion therapy. How can you not see the similarities?

Gender affirming care is NOT conversion therapy. It’s not attempting to change someone’s internal sense of gender or sexuality to one the religious right finds more appealing. But you knew that already. People should have the freedom to do what they want without their bodies.
