You don’t think it’s important for a US Senator to be able to process information and communicate effectively? Well you found your candidate I suppose but perhaps you might want to be a bit more thoughtful about what qualifies a person to be Senator. And btw, I’m not at all a fan of oz but objectively fetterman is a dismal candidate even setting aside his health.

DH just told me he was on a group Zoom call with national leaders in his field-- and Fetterman--last week. He said Fetterman did not stumble on his words or need any special equipment like a transcription machine or teleprompter. It was a small group (10 or under) and Fetterman didn't seem to have prepared remarks, so maybe he does better in a smaller setting where he can be himself. I asked DH twice to clarify whether or not Fetterman seemed to stumble over words or hesitate and he answered both times that he did not. So I'm going with that piece of insight into Fetterman's mental acuity--and not what anyone else says.

Sounds anecdotal, and therefore irrelevant.

His performance last night is what he should be judged on.

Well good job on not wanting "local political leaders" anywhere near women trying to make complex health care decisions about their reproductive lives. Well done on that paramount issue.

PP here. Yes, I now it is anecdotal and of no consequence voters, but I just offer it because I find it interesting. It makes me wonder whether Fetterman's performance on TV last night was exacerbated by nervousness, anxiety, etc. The good news is that if he wins, he should be able to do the job.

I’m not picking on Fetterman because he had a stroke. I’m picking on him because he’s a complete and utter fraud.

He’s trying to pretend to be the vanguard of “the working class”, wearing hoodies and carhardt jackets and showing his sleeve tattoos and talking about the struggle of the blue collar people.

The truth is he comes from a wealthy family, has never had a real job outside of politics, and has literally NEVER worked a day in his life in the kinds of jobs he wants his image to portray. He wants people to think he was a career tradesman, like an electrician or a plumber, because he wears a hoodie or a workman’s coat. Nope. He was a small town mayor, and then a lieutenant governor.

The guy’s whole persona is a sham. He’s fake. He’s just a run of the mill leftist progressive. Even the police dept FOP of his old town where he was mayor won’t endorse him.

He’s a phony.

As opposed to Dr. Oz - the guy whose dad is a wealthy surgeon and mom who comes from wealthy Ottoman royalty? Who paid for his elite Ivy education and med school at Penn? That "man of the people"?

Give me a break. Guys like Oz haven't spent one day with the "working class." He glided from prep school, to Harvard, to Penn, to hobnobbing with other doctors and eventually celebrities.

Whatever you might think of his candidacy, Oz has never sold himself as some blue-collar guy.

Fetterman literally is a blue collar guy, having slept in a basement, renovated a community center, built his home out of an old auto dealership, etc.

He came from an upper middle class family but has basically led a lower middle class lifestyle prior to becoming the Lt Governor.

That's a fancy way of saying he lived like a basement bum with his wife until he was practically 50. That's not blue collar. That's lazy.

+1000

"Slept in a basement?" Ha Ha. Can't wait til PP's 45 year old son is home with mommy and daddy, "sleeping in the basement."

Where did Oz sleep? Eliot? Kirkland? Or on the Quad?

Again, your elitist denigration of hard working people is noted.

I'm ambivalent about Oz, but he was a surgeon before going into the media world. I don't think you can argue that surgeons are slackers when it comes to work.

Look, Fetterman has created an image of a blue collar guy from a hard-scrabble town in Pennsylvania that he sells to low information voters. I actually kind of respect his ability to convince people that he is something other than what he is. But, it doesn't take much effort to see through that.

So you’re going to ignore Oz being a con man for the last decade? That’s okay with you?

That's literally what it means to be a Republican. You're either in the Club, or you're not.

Fetterman is a con-man. He pretends to be something he’s not.

Oz has never pretended to be anything other than a Doctor. A REAL Dr, I mean. Not a Jill Biden “doctor”.

1) he is a turkish resident and votes in turkish elections
2) he has been selling snake oil oin TV for over a decade, he is literally a con man

Oz is a literal con man selling diet pills and fake medical supplements. He may have gotten a medical degree, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t throw all that out the window to get rich.

But MUCH more importantly. Oz is a Turkish citizen who has served in the Turkish military and retained substantial ties to Turkey’s elite. It’s absolutely shady as all hell.

And I really really love if the ‘BULD THE WALL’ MAGAs come at me for calling this sh!t out. I never said don’t come here. I said maybe your allegiance to a country WHICH YO UHAVE NEVER SERVED is in question when you actively maintain ties to a foreign (Hostile) power.

I am not a Oz fan. But criticizing over Turkish military stint is a bit too far! Are you saying a Jewish citizen of Israel or a Ukrainian who joined armed forces to fight Russia shouldn’t become a U.S. citizen and run for an elected office?

Not PP but Oz has voted in more Turkish elections than Pennsylvania elections. And he’s still a dual citizen.

So we can't trust immigrants and dual citizens to be senators?

you can if you want. Many might prefer their representatives to be all in on American citizenship. This is why we vote and choose.

Oh...and then respect the result of the election. There is that part too

Well "many" should please link where they have been as outspoken about Mazie Hirono. Otherwise "many" are just hypocrites spouting garbage.

Well there we go. We'll just keep the senate down to 10 "familiar faces" from now on. Which 5 states get representation?

Why are you so desperate to ignore his shortcomings. If he hadn’t bombed the debate would you still think he was a qualified candidate? All I see is a lifelong loser with bad policy and a disqualifying infirmity.

Vote for the forced birther con artist from NJ if you prefer that over fetterman for some misguided reason. That is your right.

DP. I like him. I like his personality and I like his policies and what he's promised to support. Whatever shortcomings he has pales in comparison to the dishonesty and snake-oil salesmanship of Oz, who is just so fantastically awful. Truly awful. All I see in him is a charlatan, and I'd rather have a disabled senator who needs accommodation than a charlatan any day. Especially when the charlatan backs policies I abhor, like giving politicians a say in a woman's healthcare decisions. You seem to be okay with the charlatan aspect and many of us really cannot fathom that.

Why don't Republicans feel repelled by Oz's history as a snake-oil salesman?

Oh never mind, lol. I realize that's a silly question given their history of supporting such con men.

It's still bewildering why integrity is not an issue for them. But I guess power is the greatest aphrodisiac?

The choice is between two charletons.

One of whom thinks politicians should have a say in a woman's health care decisions.

And who was denounced by other medical professionals because “Worst of all, he has manifested an egregious lack of integrity by promoting quack treatments and cures in the interest of personal financial gain.

He does not have a stutter. He had a stroke caused by a blood clot. He is also not releasing his medical records. If he wants to be re-categorized as disabled have at it, but there is a big difference between a speech impediment caused by anxiety and one cause by a debilitating medical condition that cut off oxygen to his brain.

+100. I am a liberal dem in PA and voted for Fetterman in the primary, and will in the general, but am very upset at how his campaign has refused to release medical records. They downplayed the severity of the stroke for months. And it will be horrible if because of this many voters flock to Oz, and PA ends up with Mastriano for governor too.

One might ask why YOU are so willing to look beyond Oz's various cons, inauthenticity, elitism, ties to a corrupt foreign leader, and complete lack of government experience.

I would feel bad for Fetterman if he and his wife hadn’t tried to end Dasha Burns’ career for reporting the simple truth that Fetterman doesn’t seem to understand everything said to him. The way they went after that correspondent was nasty as hell. Now, we see from this debate that she was just doing her job to report on candidates, not shill for them. Fetterman and his wife can kick rocks with their coverup and demand that everyone keep quiet about his condition.
