24 Girls Recruiting

I guess I am not following ... M&D, Heros and Skywalkers are top MD clubs. This is pretty agreeable. I would say it is also agreeable to say that Capital is just as good as those three. Not sure why someone would want to argue on behalf of either. They are all four amazing so what is the issue?

Laxnumbers.com has the best list of commits out there. Many more commits listed than any other site I have seen anywhere

And people, please shut up about who is going where and all that crap. I don’t care who you play for or where you are going. If your daughter Committed to a school she is in love with, I would like to congratulate her. You all getting into this pissing contest is really getting old. Grow up and focus on the fact that the girls in the area are doing great with recruiting

This does not seem to be panning out when you look across the board at the 2024 class. Not to negate any individual decisions based on individual choices or needs just the overall attitude about the overall directive of the program. Yes you can point to the 5-6 commitments to top academic schools but you can get that at Skywalkers and other programs as well...

Pretty funny to see parents like this who were the instigators by claiming MD club superiority over Capital now try to rewrite history. I forgot that you have the right to say you’re better than everyone at everything, and no one else has the right to challenge you.

Most (all?) of the posters here said Capital was competitive with the MD clubs, which the facts prove, in response to MD parents who claimed their programs were far better and that DMV kids were “flowing north” (which the facts discredit).

As far as academics go, Cap Blue 24s so far have Cornell, Yale, Princeton, Penn, Vanderbilt and UVA. That’s an impressive list by anyone’s measure. And if you’re comparing that to Skywalkers, thanks for making the case that Capital can stand on its own two feet and compete with the best of ‘em. I recall someone posting a list of the 23s that showed a similar comparison of both clubs sending kids to strong academic and lax schools.

I respect your opinion but I also think you fail to realize how difficult it is right now with COVID for these kids to get into the so called "elite" schools based on academics alone. Admissions are tighter than ever before. It is cascading all the way down the line.

Truly, I am not bashing you at all, I just think if my kid gets into a JMU or Fairfield or any other school and lax helps, that is great.

I think financials play a huge role for these girls (and the teams that recruit them) as well.

If I'm a VA resident and JMU calls. I'd take the call. It's a fantastic school for DMV kids with a great post college network in our area and, price is right compared to any elite Ivies.Their womens lax program is top tier with fantastic facilities. I might consider it over a $250K+ Ivy. Save cash, have a great athletic career, and use that savings towards an elite grad school afterwards? Just one perspective.

This is right and consideration must be given to the fit for the girl and the desired academic program. DCUM is full of prestige whores who love to crap on everything other than HYPS.

It’s not being a “prestige whore” (your words not mine) to recognize that going to a top tier school, particularly an Ivy and a few others (Stanford, Duke, maybe Hopkins) pretty much guarantees a student who wants it a desirable internship in the summers and then a great job or leg up into grad school after graduation. And that is a full guarantee if you are an Ivy lax player. The REASON many kids and their families want them to attend an Ivy is because they set you up for the next step better than anywhere else if you do well. It is far easier to get the best internship and/or first job out of school when you graduate from an Ivy. It’s worth far more than the greater tuition payment. The vast number of connections in the most prestigious fields all over the world are unmatched for Ivy grads. Many of those alum want other alum or Ivy grads. IYKYK.

Why compare a club's academic connection at all? It has nothing to do with the club itself. Its a product of elite private schools have great lacrosse and those players go to Capital because Capital is the top club in DC area.

That is what I have genuinely always wondered about this “debate”. Isn’t a lot of the recruiting piece more about the kid’s academic profile outside lacrosse? Or (honest question) is the view that the same girl will do better at Capital than a MD club, for example?

What's the current list of '24 commit schools look like for the area clubs? Any local girl going to play in college should be celebrated and not criticized. It's great to see so many young women empowered.

Thank you so much. I had never heard of laxnumbers.com and the nerd in me was able to export to excel and sort by club. Shame the website doesn't let you do that. Best place to find the info everyone here is looking for. Thanks!

Also I am the PP that stated that all 4 of these clubs are comparable and this website indicates that. Why everyone here wants to one up is odd to me. Come here for information and insight on the process leave the rest alone.

Capital has better recruiting operation; the numbers prove it. Nothing to do with players’ talent. MD teams win more tournaments; the numbers prove it. But MD teams finds the stars and focus on them. Parents have to decide what is more important — winning games or getting recruited. I think parents want the latter.

The difference is in the various Club’s strongest connections as it largely dictates which coaches they have watching their games, who will take phone calls from the club encouraging them (college coach) to look at a certain player, what schools’ coaches the Club had close relationships with. Like all things it’s about relationships and connections. That is why the schools the girls committ to matter to people. It’s about whether a club has connections to the kind of college or lax program your daughter wants. It matters.

When a player or her parent is considering what club to try out for they often look at the lists of where the players from the club are playing in college. It tells you a lot about a club and if it’s a good fit for your DD and family. Therefore the reputation and prestige/tier of a college matters just as much as the quality of the lax program. If a club can say it has around 50% of girls committ to “X” kind of college, if that’s what a large number of people want (shown in part by a college’s low acceptance rate or ranking) then they Club is a desirable club.

If a player is not recruited between Sept - Dec 2022, is it reasonable to expect to commit? Do players commit in their Senior year? One parent told me it does not happen but another said they can.

Could be a little bit of both. Being recruited in your senior year certainly can happen. Being recruited to a school your DD wants to attend becomes more difficult the longer the process goes on.

If depends on a few things, especially if they are looking for money. I can name a few examples where girls commit in late Spring/early summer to Big Ten or ACC schools, but they were preferred walk-ons at both programs. This is where club directors can actually add value. Also, there will be an occasional decommitt which can open up a spot.

MAC schools probably have the latest timeline as they are looking for girls who fall through the cracks at top schools.
