Jokes on them, because they can still get Delta, or any other variant out there if they haven't bothered to get vaccinated or boosted, which does lower infection rates.

If everyone who could had gone out and gotten double vaccinated and then boosted, the kids probably could have ditched masks a while back.

Maybe the shift was because omicron was such a mild nothingburger for most that people thought, we’ve messed up our kids lives for two years for a head cold?

I absolutely disagree that we have a responsibility to protect selfish adult morons.

You can keep on telling yourself that- but, just as an illustrative example, FCC has about the highest vaccination rate in the state- over 80% of the population fully vaccinated. FCC's case numbers for the last several months have also been amongst the highest in the state.
Now- the hospitalization rate for FCC is phenominal, basically no one is being hospitalized. But so long as we obsess about case numbers its difficult to say that if 'everyone had gotten vaccinated we could have ditched masks.'

I wish what you were saying was true- and I get why it is a tempting statement b/c it maintains a modicum of control over something that can't really be controlled- but the facts don't support this view.

Aside from young children, no we don't.

The forced child maskers really can't give it up - it's purely about ego and anti-scientific, quasi-religious beliefs at this point. Right now, the so-called disability attorney (who is a closed schooler, which hurt SO MANY disabled kids, just as masks do) is on AEM pushing a hail mary lawsuit.

The same people pushing for this litigation (Smart Restart) are the same people who said:
(1) School was unsafe to reopen during throughout the 2020-2021 school year - they were repeatedly wrong
(2) School was unsafe to open fall 2021 with the Delta variant - they were wrong
(3) School would have to close down in January 2022 because of the Omicron varient - they were wrong
(4) A founder is saying on AEM (the one who said in an NBC interview she sent her son to school with a CO2 monitor) that things will never go back to normal and wearing masks will be a part of our lives forever
(5) On Smart Restart Twitter, that forced child mask wearing needs to happen every time there's a surge in cases for the rest of our lives (i.e., while COVID is still here)

These people have been so wrong. They want children to be forced to mask forever. Their credibility is utterly destroyed and they're a laughing stock of this community.

And if we can't unmask now, then when? We have vaccines for 5 and up. And a ton of people just got omicron so we have a really high level of immunity from vaccine and natural infection.

How about when the under 5 vaccine is available?

Why should people over 5 wait for that? I don't think it's necessary, especially given the low risk to kids under 5 of the virus.

These people are nuts. The Smart Restart head said on AEM that she'd like to be able to sue parents if a maskless kid infects her child. LOL

Good luck litigating that the lack of a Paw Patrol mask kept her little snowflake from getting a cold.

It is you anti-maskers who are selfish nut cases. There is still significant community spread of Covid right now. Over 2,000 Americans are still dying a day from it. It is completely reasonable to wear a mask in the close quarters setting of an indoor classroom right now. May that be different in a few weeks or a month? I sure hope so but based on the history of this pandemic, there are no guarantees what will happen next.

Those deaths are almost entirely unvaccinated adults. Fortunately, there is a simple way for them to not die, they've just chosen to take the risk. I'm sick of responsible people having to bear the brunt of precautions in order to protect idiots.

No - vaccines are available. I don't have any further responsibility. It's about personal responsibility now.

Not a Christian. And the adults who won't get themselves vaccinated are the immoral ones.

No, I have no obligation to live under any restrictions to protect someone who can’t be bothered to protect themselves.

Oh, honey, please go back to bed. It's going to be a hard couple of weeks for you.

P.S. You don't "hope so." You love masks and want to do this forever.

Your comment is completely ignorant. Why does recognizing that masks are reasonable precautions right now means that I “love” them and want to wear them forever?

Because you're simply wrong. Masks (mandatory) are not a "reasonable" precaution for "right now." They are an extreme overreach, and people who still advocate for them in the circumstances in which we are today can only be doing so because they simply enjoy masking. There is literally no other explanation.

Well we have the majority of the VA legislature, the WHO, and most of Europe on our side, as well as a number of science experts like Joseph Allen of Harvard.

Indoor masking is still recommended by the CDC.
