For my kindergartner learning to read it would be useful to have her teacher unmasked so she could see how the mouth makes the sounds on a page. Same for ESL kids, I would think. It would be nice if they’d make it an option. |
I'm sorry your niece had chemo. I hope she is doing well now. I also hope we all have learned a lot from COVID and that we can change as we learn. |
If would be nice for my kindergartener too. It would also be nice if my kindergartner didn't bring COVID home to their sibling under 5 who is at risk for COVID complications. In person school is definitely the better social, emotional, and educational place for my kindergartener. Virtual schools is not the same as in person. |
Why is that time now? As far as I can see people like you are just tired of masks, you've gotten your vaccine, and you don't care about the under 5s with health issues. How long did we all take precautions when you didn't have a vaccine available? A lot longer than you're being asked to hold on until the under 5s have a vaccine. |
I agree with you but I think kids option is the first priority if I had to pick. |
Two years was my limit - it turns out. I didn’t ask anyone to take precautions for me. That’s not what I am about - I am about personal choices to protect yourself and not mandates on others. I don’t care about your anxiety and inability to assess risk on the under 5 population. |
Its sad how many people I've know who have spouted the same personal freedom garbage, and then had life experiences which showed them they are not the island they thought they were. Tough stuff. |
Your kindergartner should get vaccinated and wear a good mask. |
It is best to be self reliant and not be expecting anyone else to protect you from disease. That especially goes for immuno-compromised people. I would tell them don’t think these cloth masks are protecting you - even the cdc said they don’t. |
I'm sensing there is a LOT of overlap between parents that wanted schools to stay closed indefinitely, and parents that now want to keep kids masked indefinitely. I get it, change is hard, and some people are early adopters and some people are laggards. I'll leave it to you to decide where you want to be, but change is coming. |
I sort of feel like this is a Jan. 6 moment or something. How can the VA democrats not see that a mask mandate is a real impingement on liberty that should really only be used sparingly? Going on two years and with vaccines available for all school aged kids is not sparingly.
**If there is a preschool class in a public school - and the kids are too young to vaxxed - you can require masks in that classroom if you like. But I don't recommend it for development reasons, and I have more education experience that you probably do so you should probably listsen to me. |
Mmmmpf. Well, I can practically guarantee that I have more education experience than you, and I think that the children and staff should still be masked ... Want to have a degree out? I'll tell you about my credentials and steps, and you can tell me yours. I bet I win. ![]() |
I’ve been working in education since 1999 and I believe the WHO agrees with me, as well. And, you lose all credibility if you think kids in schools are wearing good masks correctly. |
They are vaccinated and they do wear a good mask. |
If you're so self reliant I guess I don't understand how you are posting online from your log cabin in the middle of nowhere where you grow your own food and are 100% self sufficient, living off the grid, provide your own medical care, police, and fire department services, and rely on nobody whatsoever. |
