I saw both teams play this year and I went to the game. Heading in, I thought Oakton was the favorite. First of all, they had the best public school player in the state. #11 goes hard to goal and attacks loose balls. Plus, her handle! That’s a huge advantage in a really competitive game. Second, they played a more competitive schedule to prepare them. No one’s fault, BF’s schedule was difficult, but their district just isn’t as competitive.
All this being said, BF was a tough, gritty team that fought back when the chips were down. They played like their onfield leader, #23, the unheralded but laser focused/Uber competitive captain. A team full of #23s would beat any private school team! If my daughter was one of those BF players - I wouldn’t be worried about the woman she will become. Congrats to those great Oakton players too! They were the hunted all year and they sealed the deal against a worthy foe. What a great game and a great season! I recommend some of you appreciate the great things about all of our kids and the awesome sport they play. |
Why do many of the posts about Oakton winning seem to come with a BUT…Battlefield this or that. I can’t recall so much talk about a team finishing second. Assuming these are Battlefield posters. Just simply say congratulations to Oakton. We don’t need to hear about your woulda, shoulda, couldas. |
I watched the film and #23 was no where to be seen in the state final. She maybe had a goal but caused more fouls and turnovers then she did anything else. (not a BF nor Oakton parent, just someone who was interested in the game) |
By your rationale if Oakton is better in every area of the game (Offense, Defense, Goalie, more Talent) how do you win by only 1 goal? I thought both teams were great and each team had their strengths and advantages thus the 1 goal game. |
I’m not the one who stated Battlefield should have won. You did. You are relentless, I’ll give you that but it won’t change the result. Just let it go. We barely remember who won the championship after the game let alone who lost. No need to keep trying to justify Battlefield’s participation. Good luck next season. As someone already posted 2023 is over. |
Otherwise known as Oakton’s “JMU commit” 😀 |
Why is something nice about someone else considered an insult to the other party in Vienna? |
They don’t like that the hillbillies came close to them 😂 |
OMG, the game is over, no one cares except these couple parents on this stupid board. Move on and kill this thread |
Let’s play again Battlefield-3 lol |
hillbillies who can put your 40year old brick rambler in their garage. |
I think you are misreading the post. No one is trying to change the result. The post was an observation based possessions (which usually determines the winner) but was giving kudos to the Oakton defense (includes goalie) along with #11 Oakton and her teammates for winning a great game. I keep trying to compliment Oakton overall team and winning a state championship against a very good opponent. |
Good question. Not sure we can solve that one. |
Unless there is a bad ref call that clearly alters the outcome, it is poor sportsmanship to claim that the loser should’ve won…if only______. Every sports game could have had a different outcome “if only.” It didn’t happen for a reason. Oakton led the championship game 7-2. Battlefield got two or three man up goals, so one could just as easily say “if only the Oakton defender hadn’t gotten a yellow, Oakton would have won by four. The result is the result. Kudos to the victor! Everything else is sour grapes. |
And we could also say Oakton’s goals were only on a yellow card and some questionable 8 meter calls. Tomato Tomato! |
