Not sure. Before this season, Oakton’s last state title was in 2012. If she has led a team to the title, that would probably be the only one. I know she has not ever led Madison to the promised land. She is a good coach, but her teams always seem to underperform expectations in the state tournament.

Yep, all those titles were under Counts!

She must have lost her touch. Her senior laden team last year was her best chance. And dropping games this year to Westfield and Robinson, both teams Oakton crushed by 10 or more goals, indicates something is wrong in Warhawk land.

Her 2022 team was the most talented team in the state but really underperformed. They also shouldn't have lost to Robinson in the States this year.

Watched the entire game. Battlefield should have won this game. 60% of processions just forced a little to much. Turnovers killed them. Oaktons D was good. Looked like it took a lot out of Battlefields offense 1st half. Great adjustment made by Battlefields coaches sending attack over to pressure ball. #11 was good for sure as were her teammates. Wish these 2 could have met earlier in season. Great game both teams.

VHSL has posted its Class 6 girls 1st and 2nd team All State selections. Oakton’s #11 is POY, and Oakton’s coach is COY.

Any team, including Battlefield, that doesn’t turn the ball over and controls possession should win the majority of the time. Oakton was the better team that day and more specifically their defense, especially #8 for Oakton, set the tone early with caused turnovers, ground balls, and clears.

Agreed. But I do have to say.. Battlefield looked to have more talent on the whole team. So congrats to Oakton for being able to pull out that win.

Oakton defense knew that water covers 2/3 of the earth… they covered the other third!!!!
Caused turnovers, double teams, harassed most every shot , stick check, was hard for Battlefield to get any clear looks first half! Interesting zone defense with lots of communication. Battlefield made adjustments but State Championships are won with defense!

Based on your rationale Battlefield should have been the favorite in that game. I don’t think many saw it this way coming into the game. The way it played out Oakton’s defense, goalie, and offense were the better and more talented units. If you feel BF had the better talent then those individual players failed to play better as a team. They better learn to do this if they want to play at the next level.

They are just fine. Only 3 Seniors on field. Yes we lost but we were only 2 goals away from a perfect season. Can’t ask for much more out if this young group.

If you’re asking about #11 on Battlefield who had three goals against Oakton.. she is committed to play d3 lacrosse and field hockey.
