S. Carolina double murder

Okay, so...boat revenge.

My money is on the living son. Dad would WANT to out whoever killed his family and bring them to justice, unless it was his only remaining family member.

Dead son kills living son’s boyfriend. Living son gets revenge by shooting dead son, mom intervenes and gets shot too.

Dad wants to protect his only child left. Hit attempt could have been a way to get insurance money so that living son could afford legal fees, or even to flee the country.

I don't think its the living son. He likes him. He'd be living just so he could go to court to defend him. Aside from that the lawyer said the LEOs already know who that person is and are on the case. So he's/they are expecting imminent arrests.

I think he just favored the one son and wanted to give him a windfall so that he'd be set for life.

^^It sounds like there are dead bodies everywhere, all connected to this insane family. It doesn't have to be boat revenge. Gay boy (not to add possibly a Murdaugh relative?!), housekeeper, and who knows who else. Each of these dead people have dozens of family and friends. It could be anyone. It could also be a mob hit, or drug related revenge, or gambling related revenge. You name it, this idiot and his family were up to their eyeballs messing with it.

As someone upthread said, it looks like their 100-year pact with the devil has expired.

Dateline has always been closer to Fargo! than many on here want to admit. My DH loves it; I call it "white women in peril."

Yes, this story is amazing.

Does anyone still think that Murdaugh DIDN'T kill the wife and son (or direct someone else to do so)?

No, I think he did it. But I really want to hear his exact reasoning on why.

A - The son was too much trouble re the boat murder

B - The wife was investigating the law firm finances

C - He wanted a divorce and all of the above

D - All of the above and he wanted the insurance payout

My guess is that he did it or had someone do it for reasons A, C, and/or D. I don't see the wife investigating the law firm finances, but maybe she was investigating his gambling/drug addiction, which would have turned into an investigation of the law firm finances. However, this is story is unpredictable, so who could say?

It’s usually the husband, and he found them right after they were killed. What are the odds.

Well a murder suspect has just been arrested for trying to kill Alex Murdaugh (the father) in that drive-by shooting on his car. So unless he hired a fake hitman, its sounding like a hit was taken out on him and his family got in the way.

NARRATOR: He indeed hired a fake hitman.

Let's say the fake hitman had been successful, and shot Alex dead. Do you think it would have gotten solved?

on twitter/reddit, it states the housekeeper's family got $0 out of the $500k. AM fees are as high as he is.

Ugh, I wish they had someone other than Craig Melvin interviewing the lawyer. Savannah would have asked better questions. Craig on the millions spent on drugs: "Thats a lot of oxy".

I think it's because he's originally from SC.

Another startling twist to this unending mystery. 🧐

Now the Father has confessed that he hired a hit man on himself to shoot him in the head so his remaining son would be able to receive $10M in insurance monies.

I knew when I heard that he was shot in the head (and survived) that the shooting was staged - but never expected this new twist.
Now I am thinking this Father likely could be a suspect in the death of his wife + youngest son.
I wonder what the motive would be…..

This wealthy, powerful family has gone off the rails.
I just wonder if everything fell apart because of the boating accident that occurred.
Or is there something else??

This is an excellent plot for a Lifetime movie.

The younger son likely had a bounty on his head for being responsible for Mallory Beach’s death.
Someone related to her likely was tired of waiting around for justice to take place so they likely took matters into their own hands.

Small chance it could have been the Dear old Dad.

I think he faked getting shot in the head later on.

Yes, you ARE correct.
News this morning is that the Patriarch of the family did fake the shooting.

So we already know that dead son had anger issues from what happened on the boat. He probably killed Stephen Smith and the housekeeper.

Alex had serious money issues and the dead son's court cases were going to cost him a lot of money. I think he murdered the son and intended to kill himself, but chickened out. The wife may have interrupted him and he killed her instead. OR Alex tried to stage it to look like a murder-suicide.

I think this story has many more twists - Shakespeare would be proud.
