Agree. The initial announcement said she is going through “preventative” chemo - if she had anything beyond stage 1 cancer, it seems unlikely to have used that phrase. The initial announcement said her condition was not cancer at all. So much of the verbiage from KP was bungled or confusing from the very beginning. First it was “Routine abdominal surgery” (but nothing about abdominal surgery is routine) with an oddly specific notation that it was not cancer (but nobody said it was) . Then, it’s cancer but preventative chemo. No such thing as preventative chemo. Chemo is difficult and taxing and if it were preventative for cancer, everyone would use that . Then, they mentioned William would take time off because he’s on the “school run”. Another odd

Now, the term surrounded by family and only with “birth family” is used.

There is preventative chemo - lots of young women with stage 0/1 breast cancer are given the option because breast cancer in younger women tends to be more aggressive and faster growing. It’s called preventative in the sense that technically surgery should remove all of the cancer because it is early stage, but doing chemo reduces the chance that rogue cancer cells are circulating via lymph nodes that didn’t get picked up in a scan (they’d beed to be forming into a tumor for a scan to highlight them).

Why would she have abdominal surgery for breast cancer? Or they’re using the term “abdominal” very loosely?

My guess is ovarian cancer.

People who have gone through cancer or who have had loved ones ill with cancer likely understand what might be happening in the background. What can look standoffish or secretive from the outside is often about survival and recovery. And this isn’t just regarding cancer: serious illness is hard.

They’re royals but also human beings. Kate and the children in particular are entitled to privacy on this matter.

Her video explained everything and while calm, was heartbreaking. They hadn’t realized until recently the seriousness of her condition and they were working to protect the kids, while coming to terms with the diagnosis and shifting gears so she could focus on recovery.

As far as “preventative chemo,” the term seems to be used more commonly in the UK, and may indicate adjuvant chemotherapy.

I would argue that's the wrong question. It's not an issue of "having a right to know" or not. They aren't being trustworthy. They are putting out information that lacks credibility. People aren't trusting that what they are saying is going on, is going on, because all of their communication about it has been shady.

Silence isn't an option because then people start with the proof of life crap. The best way to proceed is by giving the minimum necessary information. That is what I would do if I had to take leave from my job, let them know generally that I am sick and when I expect to be back (which of course can be extended) without giving my coworkers details and photos.
