Is it really that easy? Most private schools are not going to play public schools. I don't think PVI or BI played any this year. Seems to happen even less on the Boy's side but Robinson Boys usually would play Landon has they had a coaching connection years back. |
This year Landon played states champs Madison Boys Lax but agree very rare. |
Great point. No incentive for the privates to play any public schools. Seems to happen most often in off-season tournaments/leagues such as Fall Brawl or St James. |
Laying it out here. BI and PVI are welcome o come play at Battlefield next year. If it doesn't happen, it's now on them....

It’s a start but BI isn’t a top ten team and it will take more than a post on an anonymous message board to make it real. It requires one coach reaching out to the other to put it on the schedule for next year. |
You have to be kidding be if you think that any of you could beat BI or any good private. You may catch a young team having a bad day but 99 times out of a 100 you all lose By a lot. I know BI didn’t have a good year by their standards by they have way more talent then any of you could ever hope for. Not to mention all of their losses were to teams ranked in the top 25 in the mid Atlantic rankings. except 2 and they were the top team on Long Island and Florida. Almost all were close games, and bad coaching was responsible for some of those. |
And last I checked they were still the 4th ranked team in Va. |
Right now they have no coach on their sidelines, so it may be an improvement... |
Privates haven’t played Va public’s mainly due to a perceived competition gap. Many Va public fans here are claiming Oakton and Madison are on par with the other top ten teams due to close games / wins against SSAS and Potomac. Everyone reads these boards - I’d think coaches at the privates would want to play neighboring Va public teams that think they are on the same level to see if they’re right. |
I wouldn’t play a private with my public team. Privates are sneaky and will smile to your face and at the same time try to recruit your team members. Why showcase your players for these shucks. |
*shmucks |
Im a public school parent, and totally support the public’s but overall, year after year public’s just can’t hang with the talent on the private school level. Sure once in a while you see a heavy senior team like oakton pop up and catch a private team on the downswing, but there is no way that public’s can play a competitive private team year after year. Again not picking on oakton, but do you really think next year after losing basically their whole starting team that they can beat sssa or visi, etc…..
The simple fact is, publics get what they get and privates can recruit. And lots of public school kids lax is not even their main sport. It’s nice to go outside the lines and play a private but scheduling is tough and I would love to see the public’s continue to push each other to make better programs |
What are you talking about?? |
Can we please kill this thread as there is a new 2024 thread started |
Some insecurity here. Going a little strong. Yes, top privates are better than top publics. The reasons--recruiting, financial aid, traditional recruiting paths, conference competition (ISL and WCAC)--have all been covered at length here. The gap is meaningful, but not insurmountable in a one game engagement--see Oakton vs. SSAS this year. But no need to lose your cool ("more talent then [sic] any of you could every hope for"). Take a breath. |
