Great season by all the teams above and congrats to Oakton & Battlefield! |
Great job by Yorktown! Lost some players from last years state championship team but team was playing very strong by Regionals. |
Agree completely with this. Parents should encourage their coaches to play other top ten programs as part of next year's regular season. The best teams in the area should be competing with each other. |
Many schools set up 2 year agreements (Home & Away) for out of conference so may be limited year to year. |
Schedules are also impacted by the Boy's Coaches as generally (not always) are doing a Home (Girls) and Away (Boys) simultaneously. |
Dominion is and has been great. They made it to the State finals. Due for a drop though... |
This. And Fairfax schools can only get the max number of games by playing a "tournament" under their scheduling rules. So for all these posters out there arguing for more crossover games, its important to understand the scheduling rules/parameters. FFX schools would essentially need the privates to agree to a "tournament" with other public schools (SSSAS does theirs as part of their Spring Fling tourney, which is why they almost always play a public or two). New Trier was a tournament via South County, and Annandale, Centreville and Langley all technically hosted tournaments which allowed many of the big games this year to happen. The tournament does not have to be all one day, but certain parameters need to be met. So it is not just a case of pick up the phone and schedule someone. PVI or Ireton (or private of your choice) can set up their own tourneys and invite publics or jump in one of those mentioned next year as they have much more open scheduling rules. Battlefield may not be bound by these, so they can go play whoever I think. But Oakton, Madison, et al, are limited. |

Can she take some of the parents too? When I say some i have in mind all of them. |
That would be better than winning the State title! |
Seems you could switch out Bullis, Potomac and Norfolk Academy for GC, SR or PVI. Same number of in conference / out of conference games and wouldn’t impact max game schedule. I’d bring some nice whiskey and enjoy seeing the Oakton coach lose his mind on the sidelines of those matches. |
Have fun with your Haymarket to Alexandria and back to Haymarket commutes everyday! |
Well, since SSAS beat SR on what was considered a “down” year, those two are equivalent. Norfolk Academy was scheduled as part of Oakton’s spring break team beach trip. That area has very limited options for opponents. Also, Potomac is on the rise and Visi seems headed in the opposite direction. It is ludicrous to act like certain privates are the gold standard in glax, even McDonough has bad years. |
Still amazed by the excuses. Wouldn’t you want to play more teams of equivalent competition (SR *and* SSAS) rather than come up with reasons / excuses not to play them? The PP didn’t mention Visi - it noted PVI and GC as other possibilities. Heck - schedule McDonaugh too. I’d just think you’d want to prove to the region that you belong in the conversation of the best teams in the area. |
