Curious why posters here are always explaining / excusing / talking over why Oakton and Madison aren’t playing more DMV top tens, but no one has ever said: “We should take a second look at the non-conference teams we played last year and perhaps change them up so that we have the best local competition in our own region on our regular schedule. This would help us get better as a program and / or show everyone that we can compete with the area’s top teams.” Why hasn’t anyone said this? Talk to your coaches and try to set it up for next year. I guarantee the DMV top tens would love to play Oakton and Madison during the regular season.
They should consider wanting to play Battlefield too after that score Saturday
Agree completely with this. Parents should encourage their coaches to play other top ten programs as part of next year's regular season. The best teams in the area should be competing with each other.
Many schools set up 2 year agreements (Home & Away) for out of conference so may be limited year to year.
Schedules are also impacted by the Boy's Coaches as generally (not always) are doing a Home (Girls) and Away (Boys) simultaneously.
This. And Fairfax schools can only get the max number of games by playing a "tournament" under their scheduling rules. So for all these posters out there arguing for more crossover games, its important to understand the scheduling rules/parameters. FFX schools would essentially need the privates to agree to a "tournament" with other public schools (SSSAS does theirs as part of their Spring Fling tourney, which is why they almost always play a public or two). New Trier was a tournament via South County, and Annandale, Centreville and Langley all technically hosted tournaments which allowed many of the big games this year to happen. The tournament does not have to be all one day, but certain parameters need to be met. So it is not just a case of pick up the phone and schedule someone. PVI or Ireton (or private of your choice) can set up their own tourneys and invite publics or jump in one of those mentioned next year as they have much more open scheduling rules. Battlefield may not be bound by these, so they can go play whoever I think. But Oakton, Madison, et al, are limited.
Seems you could switch out Bullis, Potomac and Norfolk Academy for GC, SR or PVI. Same number of in conference / out of conference games and wouldn’t impact max game schedule. I’d bring some nice whiskey and enjoy seeing the Oakton coach lose his mind on the sidelines of those matches.
