Jogger Chased and Shot

Agreed. Although the number of people who seem to think this killing was in anyway justified is disturbing.

Now, if instead of some crackers with guns it's some n%ggers with guns confronting you, then of course it's ok to grab their guns, since they will be high anyway and there's much love among bros.

Hey PP -- you had some good points there, but can you please drop the race bait and the loaded words?

I own guns, I don't carry open or conceal. my three guns single shot bolt action 22, 22 revolver, and 9mm semi pistol are kept locked in a dial combo safe unloaded. so even if i wanted to confront someone. Id really have to think about it, since it wold take me a few minutes.

If I was a white arbrey in a black neighborhood, and was seen walking into private property and then seen hauling ass out I would expect that id likely get chased...Now whether the cops are called, who knows.

i know for a fact that two guys with guns VS one guy with out a gun. I don't have a gun I'm not stopping to fight.... if i felt that i wasn't going to get beaten or killed I'd stop and surrender and wait for police, or If I didn't think I'd survive if I stopped, I run as fast and as far as my chubby little drumsticks will take me.

That being said, I'm not out for a jog or a bike ride in black neighborhoods, and as sure as god made green apples I'm not stopping to investigate construction sites, no matter the neighborhood.

I don't think the shooters in this case expected arbrey to fight. and when he stood his ground and actually challenged the man it was a surprise. Once the the fight is on, and there is a loaded gun in the mix, the fight won't be over until someone is put down. at the end of the fight just before the last shot, the shooter did not have the gun up and sighted on arbrey, he had his two hands on the shotgun and arbrey was trying to wrestle it away. both men had their hands on the gun, but the shooter had one hand on the trigger and when arbrey got himself in front of the gun, the shooter pulled the trigger. low percentage shot with any firearm, except a shot gun.

If arbrey had gotten the gun away, would the other man have shot him? Would arbrey have killed one or both? I would not want to be on the jury.

Arbrey contributed to his own death. If he was truly out for a jog, why was he casually walking before he entered the construction site. when did he hang around the front lawn area of the house under construction for about a minute before walking inside, and then why did he emerge sprinting from the house 3 minutes later?

Travis will rot in jail for what he did. I hope...

the mcMichaels did not have the right to use force to detain arbrey.

Well, I think this needs to be put into perspective. These men felt empowered to act the way they did because the law has traditionally protected white men who kill Black men and boys. They almost got away with it! It they hadn't filmed it, or if the video hadn't been leaked, they would never have been arrested and the victim's family would have continued to scream into void without any justice.

When you are a Black man in America, there is no such thing as good enough or innocent enough.

11 year-old Tamir Rice had it coming because he had a plastic gun.

17 year-old Trayvon Martin had it coming because he fought back when followed through his neighborhood by a strange man.

22 year-old John Crawford had it coming because he picked an air rifle off the shelf at Wal Mart and carried it toward the register.

26 year-old Botham Jean had it coming because he might have smoked marijuana in his own home.

....and on and on and on. If we weren't all swimming in a racist soup, then the murderers might have felt a little less empowered to shoot to kill, and they would have come to justice much sooner.

Your last line is the only thing that matters in a court of law.

The killers, yes killers ,came to an altercation gun in hand and they were not the authorities. Whatever the young man did prior to them killing him isn't the issue. They overstepped period....This is not a black vs white issue or stealing gone wrong. It wasn't even the killers property. Nothing gave them the right to come guns in hand. If they wanted to be helpful just call the police. Otherwise, why do we even have police.

The white Christian good old boys made this a racial issue all by themselves and their lack of basic gun safety created a disaster for them and the victims family.

Weird the sellers always say, hey we have one under construction at another location you can just go look at it.

Was Arbery found to have anything on him at all from the construction site? He doesn't appear to be carrying anything obvious. My guess is that he hightailed it out of that house because something startled him. But the bottom line is he was running away from any possible confrontation at that house. I'm sure that if he knew that 2 armed men had been laying in wait for him up the street he would have ran in a different direction.

Other than possibly trespassing on another person's property who wasn't even involved in any of this - what was Arbery found to be doing wrong. I try to imagine how I'd react if 2 armed men in a pick up truck were getting into my face and I can not say for sure what I would do. I'm sure that was a very scary situation and not something that Arbery could have anticipated given the nothingburger of a so called "crime" that he had supposedly committed. The property he was on didn't even belong to the suspects so it wasn't even their's to defend was it?

Obviously, if you see a potential thief at a neighbor's property you do the right thing, get a description and call the cops. Maybe you even follow them from a very safe distance. You do not block the guy, point loaded guns in his face and expect things to go well.

Regardless of what Mr. Arbery was doing there, it is very clear that this is a construction site. It is not uncommon at all for people (because we are nosey) yo venture into construction sites. In fact while my home was under construction people did it all the time, my neighbor (who is a realtor) used it as an opportunity to garner clients.

What is actually especially telling is a lesser known case that happened earlier this week where a former NBA player was arrested and charged with aggravated assault when he detained and shot at (no injuries were reported) two individuals who trespassed onto his property and entered his home. That story can be found here. https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/former-laker-shannon-brown-arrested-after-allegedly-firing-rifle-at-couple-after-misunderstanding-in-his-home/

This also happened in Georgia, yet he was immediately arrested and charged when these other two men where not. It’s rare that two so strikingly similar incidents happen so close together. It’s hard not to see why people are so outraged. Black people in this country are chronically under suspicion for any and everything and more often than not, white people are given the benefit it of the doubt. This is America, this is racist, and this is just part of what needs to change.

I am a black woman and I'm a runner. Whenever I come upon a construction site of a new house, I usually stop and look inside. I'm curious. A lot of us do that. That is not criminal. I also go around cars and trucks. Also not unusual. What was he supposed to do. If you are stopped and have a shot gun, what that hell am I supposed to do? I'm going to be scared as hell. Who does that? I'm not going to stop just because you tell me to stop. I'm going to think that you are a lunatic. I don't have to show you my freedom papers. This is not 1850 Georgia.

Yup. People do this all the time.

Actually that is trespassing and illegal, I know no one that does this, what if you get injured

BS. You probably know a ton of people who do this. I don't think I've ever had a conversation with a friend to say hey, I was jogging and looked inside a window of a house under construction. This would literally never come up in conversations.

because you have permission. the seller is building another home at another location, which means they have the right to be on the property. you entering the property uninvited by yourself is not legal.

trespassing is illegal. just because you wander onto a construction site and don't steal anything or vandalize the place, doesn't mean you were wrong. he was someplace he wasn't supposed to be.

not worth being killed over though...

Random people shouldn't have the right to do anything other than call the cops if they see something suspicious. I hope they fry these two.

Why does one particular poster here keep referring to these me as “white *Christian* men”?

What does their religious persuasion have to do with anything? Further, what proof do you have that they are practicing Christians?

I saw this the first time in this thread many pages ago, and dismissed it as just a crackpot remark. But now I’ve seen it several more times, always by the same poster, and clearly it’s an intentional attack.

This needs to stop. Now.

Christianity has nothing to do with this crime, and this poster needs to stop her whackaloon attacks on a religion by constantly referring to these men as Christians, when there is no contextual need to do so.

I did not have permissions. Sombody from site A does not have authority of site B.

He wasn't trespassing. Actually the trespassing law require a crime to happen for it to be trespassing. Also a "no trespassing" sign must be posted ... it it is locked... that would act as a sign, but it wasn't locked.

It's against the law for one. Someone bought that lot and was having their home built. Why would someone think they can go onto that property and inside the home? Framed or not.

That jogger wasn't admiring the structure fyi. Many look for expensive equipment, copper, or tools left behind. From all the videos I saw all 3 showed poor judgement. The two men should have called police instead of trying to confront him. I would think they will get some sort of judgement against them. Problematic may be the jogger charging the one man, and perhaps other factors.

Yes, the best approach for an African American man being chased by random shotgun-waving dudes in a pickup truck is to surrender immediately. Historically, it's always ended well for that guy.
