No VERA for me since I came from industry (for the job security ) but if they offer VSIP this time next year I’ll be gone in a heartbeat.

| Week 3 - is anyone getting to telework in your group yet? I don’t mean the people with long term accommodations but just ad hoc by sending an email on a Monday? We’re starting to see it here and there - thus far only people who are buddy buddy with their bosses. |
When people have an appointment that would otherwise cause then to take the whole day off, yes. That's the ad hoc policy. I'm not sure why you keep asking. |
So I can have my electrician come tomorrow, cleaner on Wed, make a salon appointment Thursday, and have lunch w my kid Friday and telework all week? Sweet. YMMV but despite policy we’ve been hearing mgmt is trying to sort out how much telework is really ok to approve before someone starts coming down on them. So in my group they’re def leaning a bit towards - can you just take the whole day off thx. |
| What I'm hearing is that TW that works out to be consistently even once per PP, even if not always the same day, is too much. |
| It feels like there is a lot of trolling going on in this thread. |
| And I have no idea why people are so entitled about telework. SEC employees have great jobs and lots of flexibility and earn a lot of leave. Please stop the whining. If you are not happy with the full-time in the office, find a new place to work. |
How’s that boot taste? |
| You mean the flexibility they took away from us to force us to litigate our rights? Is this our doge rep? |
+1. |
We are all trying to keep it infrequent for now. Like once a month maybe? Maybe twice a month but not more than that. If we abuse it, that will be the end. Just take a sick day. We have plenty of those. |
I don't know why people keep saying we have a ton of sick leave. We accrue one day a month. You can blow through that and your saved up hours quite quickly if we are required to take the whole day off for a one hour doc appointment. My kids get sick for like 5 days each time so that is 5 months of accrued sick leave gone. Then maybe another kid gets it. Then doc appointment for various things. You get the picture. |
You can also use regular leave, which we accrue more quickly. You also can earn credit hours, although credit hours earned outside the office might be frowned upon without a good reason. |
Of course you can. However, it would be ideal if you could telework without fear of adverse consequences rather than resort to using annual leave because your sick leave balance drops too low. My supervisor asks for a written justification when we need to telework or make a ad hoc schedule change and acts on such requests quickly. If a request were denied (hasn’t happened yet) I’d take leave, but it would suck for my coworkers who’d have to cover for me for a full day instead of a couple hours. We were short staffed even before the Gensler era hiring freeze. |
Wish someone would put out a loose guideline. Obv not in writing but quietly let your reports know hey more than 1x/mo or 2x/mo will be a problem so don't do it. In my group people are taking tons of leave - most taking 1 day/wk but no one is really teleworking or asking to telework except for a few people that are pretty social with the bosses, so they know the bosses won't say no - at least not immediately. |
