Week 3 - is anyone getting to telework in your group yet? I don’t mean the people with long term accommodations but just ad hoc by sending an email on a Monday? We’re starting to see it here and there - thus far only people who are buddy buddy with their bosses.
We are all trying to keep it infrequent for now. Like once a month maybe? Maybe twice a month but not more than that. If we abuse it, that will be the end. Just take a sick day. We have plenty of those.
I don't know why people keep saying we have a ton of sick leave. We accrue one day a month. You can blow through that and your saved up hours quite quickly if we are required to take the whole day off for a one hour doc appointment. My kids get sick for like 5 days each time so that is 5 months of accrued sick leave gone. Then maybe another kid gets it. Then doc appointment for various things. You get the picture.
You can also use regular leave, which we accrue more quickly. You also can earn credit hours, although credit hours earned outside the office might be frowned upon without a good reason.
Of course you can. However, it would be ideal if you could telework without fear of adverse consequences rather than resort to using annual leave because your sick leave balance drops too low. My supervisor asks for a written justification when we need to telework or make a ad hoc schedule change and acts on such requests quickly. If a request were denied (hasn’t happened yet) I’d take leave, but it would suck for my coworkers who’d have to cover for me for a full day instead of a couple hours. We were short staffed even before the Gensler era hiring freeze.
