Is it too soon to discuss the fact that monifa grabbed her pink coat with the leapord print collar instead of something more appropriate for the situation

While I'm not a fan of hers in the communication department, let's not do this. You would grab something you felt confident in too if you knew your face would be plastered all over the news.

From Bethesda magazine:

" School security “became aware of a situation” in a school bathroom at 12:53 p.m. Friday and someone called 911 at 12:57 p.m., Police Chief Marcus Jones told reporters during a briefing on Friday.

At 1:05 p.m., the school went into full lockdown mode. A lockdown differs from shelter-in-place in that it is used for more serious situations, and instruction does not continue, unlike in shelter-in-place.

Jones said police officers and county sheriff’s deputies secured and searched the building. The alleged shooter was found and taken into custody just after 3 p.m., he said.

Jones said a gun was found nearby when officers found the student accused of the shooting.

“The school went into lockdown immediately upon notification that we had discovered that an individual had been shot at the school ….,” Jones said. “That meant that the doors were locked shut with teachers and students inside those classrooms.

“We methodically slowed down the investigation at that point because we did not believe there was an ongoing threat at that very moment. So, it took us a couple of hours for us to put everything together, locate that [accused shooter] and place that student into custody.”

Jones said officers determined that it was not an “active shooter” situation, with an ongoing threat to others, because no other threats were made. "

??? to the bolded? So they'll just take their time while the shooter decides to quietly kill off a few more people, without making any threats?

They don't need ai power to pull up footage. Administration has access to the cameras, know which are located where and how to review footage. It is done every single day.

IT person here. You watch too many TV shows. Even if they had great technology, the admins would be fumbling around to remember their password, figure out how to scroll back in time, etc etc.

Still not the best choice. But let's ignore the small sins and focus on a third-party investigation!

With the matching pink mask. She was an hour late which delayed the kids being released but that delay was important, because she had to look good for cameras.

Yes. And you'll realize soon enough that the cameras don't actually work during the day.

The cameras can all be pulled up from a central MCPS location. That's so they can see inside schools afterhours and monitor school day emergencies, like today.

Anonymous wrote:Not defending poor communication but this doesn't sound like a "typical" school shooting situation (I know that sounds terrible). If the victim couldn't communicate or identify the shooter while he is bleeding/seriously wounded, then it is going to take some time to figure out who the shooter is/where he is.

We're often quick to blame administration, police, etc. when all the blame should be placed on the shooter (and possibly his parents).

Victim could communicate and did.

Cameras? They are everywhere. If they had smart cameras with accompanying AI software, it would be able to trace the steps of the killer. I bet they do not have smart cameras or very limited capability cameras.

That is considered authoritarian. Not going to happen in a free society.

It's not going to happen because of money not because of perception regarding whether it could be considered authoritarian. Do you really think there is no AI software working on the back end of those red light cameras to identify license plates, whether you came to a full stop when turning on red, etc.?

MCPS has an extensive, sophisticated security camera system inside all schools. High schools have cameras in every hall and outside the building. MCPS can track and does track the location of certain students throughout the day. You don't have to worry about money, it's already been spent on these security cameras.
Police used the cameras today.

You can’t be serious, right?

Sounds like a drug deal gone bad or something. No active shooter crap.
