We choose APS partly because of the smaller class size. If they are increasing class sizes in elementary but not building a new high school, why do they think school population will shrink in figure?

It was clearly listed in budget presentation.

The original materials only called for an increase in kindergarten sizes. At the meeting they went further and approved increased class sizes for all elementary. Barely w/o a discussion. I don’t understand how parents gets outraged about various pet issues but increased class sizes? Who is advocating to reverse this decision?

Yikes. 30 kids? This doesn’t worry me as far as Covid goes, it worries me that our school board thinks 30 kids is an appropriate size for an elementary class. What are these people thinking?

Not about the kids, clearly. The problem is they suffer from group think. They all decide on the side or behind closed doors what to do and then go through the motion in public. There is no real debate and no one on the board wants to rock the boat. Mary Kadera is not in bed with the Dems, so have some hopes for her. But sadly, when it come to class sizes she keep pushing this "class size averages" BS which woudl allow schools to make some classes small and others large. But NO ES CLASS should be 30 people EVER!

If they are increasing MAX size by 1 that would be:

1st - 24+1
2nd - 26+1
3rd - 26+1
4th - 27+1
5th - 27+1

That’s the MAX recommended size. Most classes will not be that large.

The average 5th grade class last year was 21.7. Very few schools had a class that large.

It would cost more than millions to fix the class sizes and the budget lines for each are separate, so its not one or the other... although I don't disagree that the use of funds is absurd.
