How many dates before sex is reasonable?

I am pretty conservative (dating after divorce in my 40s). I know that most guys would jump into bed on a first date if they are given the chance. It took me on average 6-8 dates (sometimes more) to sleep with someone. Interestingly, it didn't seem to deter any of the guys. While they would have done it sooner, they didn't pressure me.
That being said, I wouldn't have found it abnormal for a guy to try on the first date. |

| If it's someone with whom you want to have a relationship, I would hold off. I don't think that there's anything wrong with it, but if you try too early, some women may take that as a sign that you're only looking to hook up. |

| When I was dating, if I wanted to sleep with someone, I knew it DURING the first date. I didn't usually sleep with someone on/after the first date, but if I didn't want to sleep with you, there wasn't going to be a second date. The point of dating is to start a sexual relationship. If the sex is just straight up bad, I don't care if you are also a great dinner conversationalist. Sexual compatibility is extremely important in a relationship and if it was not there between me and someone, I'd want to know about it sooner rather than later after I've invested time and energy in a relationship that ultimately won't work. |

| Dated a lot until tying the knot two years ago at 35. I never pursued it on a first date, always did on the second date, and never kept dating any woman who kept me waiting by the fourth date. Honestly would be worried about the hang-ups in someone’s psyche that they think sex is so complicated and special that they need 5+ dates as an adult to decide to do it. |
