Pretty weak response if this is indeed what happens. But I don't think it will be - after all plenty of non league teams enter the FA cup year after year - and having the best teams in the state cup makes it a better competition for everyone. |
Nope. One state cup game directly conflicted with ECNL games so it's not possible for the boys to play 2 games at once. One the girls side I know they were all green teams. I have a DD at McLean and no ECNL teams entered state cup |
Girls ECNL I believe are not permitted to play state cup. Boys ECNL is different. On the boys side the state cup games were on Saturday and the ECNL games on Sunday - arranged that way precisely so they did not conflict with each other. I'm an Arlington parent and we played the same McLean team two weekends in a row - once in ECNL and then in the state cup. It was most definitely exactly the same team we played with the same coach and the same kids. Many of the boys on the two teams know each other from having played together when younger and it is not possible that I am mistaken here. I have been reliably told that this was the case for two other age groups as well. It is possible that McLean might play its second team in the U18 age group (as Arlington is doing) and/or its first team in the U19s - but other than that these were MacLean's first teams. |

McLean entered their ECNL team and their Green team in the 05 State Cup. Arlington, also, entered their ECNL team and their Red team in State Cup.

Also, I believe State Cup is open to VPL/NPL teams to register for if they want.
And, VPL's State Cup is open to USYS teams to register if they like. Doradus often enters their teams in both competitions. |

For the trophies, I’ll take:
U15 - SOCA U16 - Arlington U17 - Arlington U18 - Alexandria U19 - Herndon (Argentinos) |
I'm not sure I'd bet against the Arlington U15 team, but I see the U17 team as vulnerable to Skyline (SOCA), and U16 Legacy team must be in contention as well. |
Which state cup, USYS or US Club? |
USYS - https://vysa-2020fallstatecup.sportsaffinity.com/tour/public/info/schedule_ladderview2.asp?sessionguid=&flightguid=E2C409D0-B850-48EC-9643-3993E1AFD961&RoundType=0&sortby=Group&tournamentguid=72404983-EB22-4C54-B6F2-7C1025DD78A5&BeginDate=&EndDate= |
Last year 2019 Champions: U15 boys: Alexandria Red U16 boys: SOCA U17 boys: Beach U18 boys: Arlington U19 boys: Soca |
All teams still in the competition assuming U17 Beach team is playing in the U19 competition this year. I wonder why they have separate competitions for U18 and U19 - why not just have a U19 competiton? Do any clubs actually maintain separate teams at these age groups? |
Last year Arlington's Academy teams were in the DA and did not compete in State Cup. |
As they only had DA till U15, Arlington's first teams already participated in the State cup at the older age groups... Do not get too excited, even if USYS sells nice Final 4 T-shirts, making it to the semis is much easier than winning the finals. |
1. I agree with you. I'm not expecting an Arlington sweep. 2. Arlington's DA teams (basically 2004 and below) are markedly better than the older teams. So last year - the 2003 team (not DA) lost in the final. This team is playing U19 this year. Last year's winner (Beach) also remains in the competition. - the 2004 team (DA) also lost in the final. This team is playing U17 this year. Last year's winner (SOCA) also remains in the competition. - the 2005 and 2006 teams (DA) did not play. These teams are playing U16 and U15 this year. |
| It’s a Covid year. I’d take anything with a grain of salt. |
