Pish. The kids are playing the same as any other year. No grains of salt required. Whichever way the chips fall is the way fall.

I think the COVID point is that NOT all the kids will be playing.

This and some Clubs did not return to contact play (or even practices) until much later than others.

At this level they are.

Which clubs in particular, amongst those with teams realistically in contention, do you thionk this is/was an issue?

So we should also take the NFL results "with a grain of salt"?
Are you the Mclean parent who explained his team's 4-0 defat by one of their players being substituted?

Because it's a pretty small world and if your kid has been palying at this level for a few years you know, or at least know of, nearly all the top kids on the good teams in the area. Of that group, I am not aware of a single one sitting out. You are correct that I am extrapolating that the same thing happened in Charlottesvlle, VA Beach and Williamsburg - but I'm willing to bet that the mindset is the same and that none of those kids sat out either.

NPL has postponed its State Cup until 2021. If you're curious about last year's champions:

BOYS
U-19: Richmond Kickers
U-17: Stafford
U-16: Richmond Kickers
U-15: Doradus (NCSL D1 team)
U-14: Doradus (NCSL D1 team)
U-13: Villarreal
U-12: PWSI
U-11: Great Falls Reston

I've been on this soapbox for a while -- there's no reason to have two State Cups and countless leagues.

Have promotion/relegation between EDP and NCSL, and morph CCL and VPL into club-v-club showcase events instead of full-fledged leagues.

Quit driving to Virginia Beach when you could play a more balanced game in your own county.

NPL event is a fake state cup. In reality, it's a league cup, which is open to outside teams, but the top teams don't participate.

Too bad they are absent as they would have been competitive in most age groups.

ECNL clubs are entered but I don't think it is their ECNL team. McLean has entered their green teams

Not accurate. McLean's green teams are in the president's cup. In the two oldest groups for the state cup, Mclean entered what they "McLean EDP" teams, but if you look at the names of the players who scored, the players are on their ECNL roster.

And, VPL's State Cup is open to USYS teams to register if they like.

Doradus often enters their teams in both competitions.

I'd have to check, but I think VPL discourages its teams from entering. But I did spot at least one VPL team this year.

VPL's State Cup is indeed open, though I'm not sure how many teams other than Doradus take advantage of it. Plenty of Doradus teams in it, though.

Villarreal played in u19.

McLean has 27 kids on their ECNL team. The players that rarely play in ECNL games played state cup.

Not true at '05. They played their best players, leaving many on the bench and still lost 4-0.
