Having dinner and then eating at noon, is not fasting

Anonymous
Maybe the issue is the people you are hanging around with? Maybe you don't like your friends?

I've done IF (7pm -1pm) for 2 years and the words "intermittent fasting" have come out of my mouth maybe 5 times. I just say I'm not a big breakfast eater, or I'll eat if I think me not eating will draw any attention. I have 2 teenage daughters, so I have to be careful of the messages that I sent.

Or maybe: Is your issue that people are getting/asking for/craving attention and you don't' think they deserve it?

Just trying to figure out why other people's eating patterns bother you so much.

THANK YOU.

I have lost 22 lbs on IF.. skip breakfast and finish dinner before 8pm.. I agree that overeating does not help though..

You're thinking of veganism.

Pretty much, but it sounds like she's specifically trying to curb afternoon snacking. I get it. Afternoon snacking is always what does me in when I'm trying to eat better.

Except that most people who do it are overweight and need to severely restrict calories to lose weight effectively. Or they are a tiny bit plumper than they prefer and have to go the scorched earth route to lose any weight.

I dont IF, but I like to diet before vacations so that I can eat whatever I want. I am already slim (BMI at 19) so if I want to move the scale at all, I have to severely restrict calories. That isn't disordered eating. Disordered would be prolonged dieting the point of nutritional deficiency, overeating to the point of excess weight, or using techniques like throwing up that can destroy organs. Eating one meal a day- that's just a calorie control technique.

I don't care what you call it, but I lost 8 lbs by "skipping breakfast" and have never been leaner. If you do a search, you will find that many reputable institutions, such as Harvard and Duke, have done studies on IF. IF is defined as going at least 14 hours without eating for a woman and 16 hours for a man.

I get more hungry in general if I eat when I leave the house at 7 vs eating when I'm actually hungry at 10 or 11. If I eat bu the clock at 7- I'm hangry AF by 11. If I wait and listen to my body's signals and eat the same thing at 10:30, im actually happier and feel better.

It really works esp for those of us who are plump and insulin resistant.

A coworker has done IF for about a year. IF this, IF that. Bla bla bla.

She eats the healthiest salads i ever seen.

Doesn't look like she has lost a single pound.

Maybe her A1C and Triglyceride Panel is better. Isn't that the more important?

I only care that eating 1-2 meals a day rather than 3 plus snacks has helped me stop gaining. Perhaps it won’t help me lose, but I can save my health and my sex life at this weight.

You probably weigh less than 100 pounds at that BMI and you’re severely restricting calories.

Sweetie, you are the definition of an eating disorder.
