Where do average students go to school?

Op again.

Question: Wouldn't it just make sense to go to MC and transfer to UMCP rather than invest in a degree from a lesser private or state uni?

I mean, doesn't a degree from umcp look better than one from WVU or Radford?

St Mary’s College of Maryland?

What’s a good list for student with 1250 SAT and 4.3 GPA?

Sure. Probably not the best experience but in terms of bang for the buck the cc-to-UMCP is hard to beat.

Not every student gets into UMDCP after MC.

There are TONS of programs out there that are for all types of students.

You might want to start using the interwebs to find them.

I'll give you a push to get started.

Frostburg has an engineering program that would love to have your 3.2 GPA son.

The hook is that the program is paired with UMCP so that the diploma says Engineering Degree from UMCP.

The problem is that graduating from that program is HARD.

It's HARD because most students in the Freshman dorm have a much lighter course load than the 15 or so engineering majors. Something like 5 engineering majors graduate per year.

It's a great deal, certainly better than starting at MC in terms of college experience.

There are also lots of good cheap privates and OOS schools.

If DC is looking for a LAC, consider St Mary's College of Maryland. It's in-state price is hard to beat.

There are lots of good prices that can be obtained from the State University of New York system.

If DC is interested in engineering consider York College of PA (private but with a UMCPish sized price tag)

Agreed.

Truly "average" students in this country do not attend four year college.

?

Yes they do.

More kids than ever are attending college...which is precisely why it's become so competitive. It was relatively easy to get into umcp in the 80s. It got harder in the 90s, and then within the last decade or so it became ridiculously hard.

And if you get an Associates from MC with a certain GPA, you automatically get into umcp. Google it.

Lastly, St. Mary's is the honors college in MD. Is it really easier to get into than umcp?

Only about a third of Americans have a college degree. I know that about 65% of HS seniors go on to college but I couldn't find stats on what percent go to 4 year vs. 2 year vs. online.

St Mary's is pretty easy to get into . Their early acceptance rate is 89% and regular acceptance rate 82%.

DS graduated with 2.5GPA and 920 on SAT. Got accepted into UVA playing football. It’s possible

Such as?

I know 3.2 doesn't get a UMC white kid into UMCP.

What about Towson? Yes or no?

Or does 3.2 mean you need to look further down the MD food chain? And, what's the pecking order? UMBC, Frostburg, then Salisbury?

Salisbury's average GPA on entry is 3.62

College grads are and have been declining for almost a decade. The outlook for the next decade is even worse.
