"Op again. Question: Wouldn't it just make sense to go to MC and transfer to UMCP rather than invest in a degree from a lesser private or state uni? I mean, doesn't a degree from umcp look better than one from WVU or Radford?" There are TONS of programs out there that are for all types of students. You might want to start using the interwebs to find them. I'll give you a push to get started. Frostburg has an engineering program that would love to have your 3.2 GPA son. The hook is that the program is paired with UMCP so that the diploma says Engineering Degree from UMCP. The problem is that graduating from that program is HARD. It's HARD because most students in the Freshman dorm have a much lighter course load than the 15 or so engineering majors. Something like 5 engineering majors graduate per year. It's a great deal, certainly better than starting at MC in terms of college experience. There are also lots of good cheap privates and OOS schools. If DC is looking for a LAC, consider St Mary's College of Maryland. It's in-state price is hard to beat. There are lots of good prices that can be obtained from the State University of New York system. If DC is interested in engineering consider York College of PA (private but with a UMCPish sized price tag)
