Where do average students go to school?

Anonymous
Question to OP....define "average". Average as in doesn't take many or any Honors/APs? Average as in unweighted/weighted GPA is 3.0-3.5ish?

Average is highly subjective. IMHO average student is one who does not take many or any Honors/APs and has GPA of 3.0-3.5. Above average student...takes some Honors/APs and has GPA of 3.5ish. Then comes exceptional....many if not all Honors/APs and GPA of 4.0ish.

I think the consensus here is Michigan. Almost everyone gets in with a 3.5 gpa and 1300 sat

It’s true. The admitted profile stats are bs, the ATTENDING profile for their liberals arts college isn’t impressive. Good stats, full pay and some demonstrated interest are all it takes.

This is brilliant satire. Bravo, PP!

Not in the last 10 years.

This year is going to be rough because the yield last year was higher than expected. OOS students will likely need to be at least 1450 to have a chance.

Ha. No, average students aren’t getting in to Michigan.

Lol. Okay Wolverine mom.

At my DD's school I've observed Michigan yield protect hard. The students with 3.0 to 3.3 gpas with sub 1200 SAT scores are the ones getting in, while anyone with even reasonably good stats gets outright rejected.

Agree. At my DS's school I've never seen anyone with an SAT score over 1400 get into Michigan

White UMC rising sophomore

In short: too soon to really tell since he hasn't taken SAT or ACT.

No APs yet (and perhaps never).

Again: where do *average* kids end up? Which state schools? Which privates (ideally ones that don't break the bank)?

WVU, ECU, Towson, George Mason etc. All will give a good education if the kid wants to get one.

GPA is too low for George Mason. The bottom 25% of last year's entering class had a 3.47. Top 75% was a 3.93. http://research.schev.edu//enrollment/B10_FreshmenProfile.asp

I think it's pretty clear that OP's question was about a 3.2 that wasn't going any higher, i.e. weighted. 3.2 kids usually don't take AP courses

Hmmm probably depends on the majors ... the PhD physics program admitted only 5% of applicants ...

Depends on skin race.

I kid you not.
