We had a discussion here about them. QA was fine. QB limits the county's ability to raise taxes, even in an emergency, which isn't good. QC is horrible because it allows council members to have more than one appointed (non-merit based) employees. It got the least votes for it out of the three but it was still voted for. |
Same here. |
Surprised people voted for B and C. I have to admit I didn’t read any of them until I got to the polling place but still could see that B and C were dumb and voted No. This is an argument for voting by mail, so you have time to consider your answers. |
The ballot initiatives are no secret. If you do your research you can look them up beforehand and figure out your answers. The only reason they'd be new to you is if you're lazy. |
Which based on the outcome the majority of voters are. So instead of calling people lazy maybe we think about how to make the process more effective. Meet people where they are. |
How would voting by mail improve things? That doesn't force people to become informed. |
Time. Voting by mail gives you the time to look things up and research. At the ballot box, you just want to fill in the circles and get out. |
It's not hard to figure out. Hogan has been a decent governor and is fairly moderate. Jealous is not moderate at all; he's in the Sanders mold, which is not (at least yet) the mainstream for most Democrats. Most of the Democrats I know voted straight Dem with the exception of Hogan and, in some cases, Floreen. |
That's silly. You get a ballot ahead of time in the mail either way. You can research it at your leisure and bring it with you. If the initiatives were news to you when you got into the voting station, that's your own fault. |
Merit-based hiring isn't everything. I work for a federal agency that is mostly merit-based but the top folks have confidential assistants who are their own selections, not merit-based. I have not seen any real difference between the two and I work with all of them on a frequent basis. I voted in favor of the amendment. |
Agree. I filled out my ballot at home while researching the candidates and the initiatives. I brought the "cheat sheet" into the polls with me and just copied my responses. |
I've been voting since 1983. I've been doing this (filling in the sample ballot and copying at the polling station) since about 1990. Nowadays, I spend the 2-4 nights before election day looking up candidates and ballot questions on the Internet and reading, then filling it in. I like having several days to research and then getting in and out quickly. Additionally, the last 3 even numbered years, I go and vote around 9:30-10 AM and then go to work late, so that I don't have to wait in lines. The morning rush clears out around 9AM and so I rarely spend more than 10 minutes there. This year the attendance was more like a presidential year than a mid-term and there was an actual wait at 10:30. I was still in and out in 20 minutes. |

Anyone have exit polls for this race - I have a feeling beckies who normally vote dem, fled away from jealous big time.

So you admit that md Dems are mostly neoliberal selfish cucks |
Way to elevate the discourse. |
