How would voting by mail improve things? That doesn't force people to become informed.
Time. Voting by mail gives you the time to look things up and research. At the ballot box, you just want to fill in the circles and get out.
That's silly. You get a ballot ahead of time in the mail either way. You can research it at your leisure and bring it with you. If the initiatives were news to you when you got into the voting station, that's your own fault.
Agree. I filled out my ballot at home while researching the candidates and the initiatives. I brought the "cheat sheet" into the polls with me and just copied my responses.
I've been voting since 1983. I've been doing this (filling in the sample ballot and copying at the polling station) since about 1990. Nowadays, I spend the 2-4 nights before election day looking up candidates and ballot questions on the Internet and reading, then filling it in. I like having several days to research and then getting in and out quickly. Additionally, the last 3 even numbered years, I go and vote around 9:30-10 AM and then go to work late, so that I don't have to wait in lines. The morning rush clears out around 9AM and so I rarely spend more than 10 minutes there. This year the attendance was more like a presidential year than a mid-term and there was an actual wait at 10:30. I was still in and out in 20 minutes.
