Hogan v Jealous

Watching Hogan breeze to victory on Tuesday, I told my wife that I expect him to run for President in 2020 as a completely reasonable, accomplished, moderate Republican who can work with Democrats.

The only question is how to keep his head down so Trump doesn't notice him. Trump is the one person that can stop him from making a serious run at the nomination.

I think he might too. The closest Republican to him is Chris Christie but he’s more moderate and a lot less corrupt (no bridge gate). If he ran and won Maryland, which is highly probable, the Democrat is going to have to come up with 10 electoral college votes to replace the 10 safe votes lost from Maryland.

Montgomery County detail from above - this is the Election Day vote, not including the early vote.

I don’t think it is highly probable he could win Maryland. I voted for him for governor, would not vote for him for any national officer (senator or President). Most democrats are only ok with him because our party has a supermajority in the legislature.

Agree
Would register with rep to vote for him in the primaries, but pr

That's right.
I voted for him on Tuesday, I might register as rep to vote for him during primaries, but I would not vote for R president while GOP controls the Senate

Hogan isn't dumb enough to run for President. His MO is being focused on the state. He isn't very charismatic and part of why he won is because he only wants to focus on the basic things in MD. Jealous was the guy wanting to become Gov just as a stepping stone for something else and it lost him the election.

Jealous was a terrrible choice. It was obvious he was only running because he thought he could ride the blue anti Trump wave without addressing any substantive issues. His one real platform issue, education, was so poorly packaged, that it seemed like he went to the progressive handbook and hit copy and paste.

Ben Jealous was a worse candidate than Brown, and that’s saying a lot because Brown sucked. Neither got off their lazy ass and actually worked, and Jealous just expected a handout of Governorship. I hope he disappears

GM is closing a plant in Baltimore, losing 300 jobs. hogan sure couldn't keep those jobs here like he promised.

This plant closing, and those lost jobs, are on HIM. He failed to keep GM here.

Jealous would've saved those jobs.

Are you happy, hogan supporters?

You are very much out of touch with reality.

The reality is that the White Marsh plant makes transmissions for cars that by 2020 will no longer be produced in the US due to restructuring. No politician would have been able to change this fact. This plant would have had at most another year in that location, but due to the corporate restructuring going on NOW it happened now instead of next summer. Additionally, they are moving away from traditional transmissions and moving towards electric and autonomous systems in cars.

Here is a quote from an article about the announcement and one from the MD State Dept of Commerce:
https://foxbaltimore.com/news/local/300-jobs-affected-white-marsh-gm-plant-to-close

News article and MD State Department of Commerce wrote:Going forward, GM intends to focus on electric and autonomous vehicle programs, similar to the strategies being taken by other car makers.

[...]

The Maryland Department of Commerce also said in a statement: “The decision by GM not to allocate new products to the White Marsh facility is disappointing, and the state stands ready to provide resources and support for the impacted workers. This was a corporate decision to undertake a national restructuring, a decision the state did not have the opportunity to influence.

If the state did not have the opportunity to influence the decision, why do you think a new governor would have been able to change this? And frankly, he's only governor-elect and wouldn't take office for another 6 or so. Why do you think he could influence a decision that was probably made months ago. It was announced today, but these things take months to prepare for the public announcement.

Jealous was in way above his head, and would have been a horrible governor. There would have plenty of scandals and embezzlement though.

Hogan has done and will continue to do a great job.

hogan just lost a GM factory and more than 300 jobs, on top of losing Amazon HQ2 and the 25,000 jobs that woulda brought.

On top of that horrible economic news, gun sales continue unabated in Maryland. There are still literally hundreds of stores in MD where people can purchase guns 7 days a week. Nothing - absolutely NOTHING- has been done to stop the flow of guns into our streets, or to take them away from the people who got them.

I'd hardly call that "doing well".

Hogan lost the GM factory AND Amazon? LOL. You are quite biased, aren't you.

Hogan lost Amazon????

I'd say it's extremely employee-protective local regulations in MoCo lost Amazon.
MoCo is simply not employer-friendly compared to other surrounding counties on both sides of the river
