Everything DC manages is a disaster

An incompetent tax office that steals money out of bank accounts instead of issuing owed refunds;

An "emergency parking" system that is basically never enforced;

No traffic police while we have increasingly dangerous roads and hordes of people riding illegal motorcycles everywhere;

Litter and trash everywhere and apparently no solution;

A huge rat problem (reported in numerous sourced this week);

A zoning board that can't be bothered to prevent eyesores or dangerous non-permitted flips;

A 911 system that is so bad multiple people have died because emergency responders went to the wrong address or didn't show up at all;

A seeming inability to do anything about spiking crime rates.

What do our tax dollars do, again?

I live in a pretty quiet, safe neighborhood in DC. None of the bolded applies to my neighborhood. I've lived in other cities where I've seen rats (Boston, NY, etc.)--never seen one here. Also not really affected by the other things, either. So, it's really neighborhood/quadrant-specific (I'm in upper NW).

Sad thing about development in DC is the rampant corruption and the control exerted by a small handful of wealthy developers who are cozy with the mayors office & key council members.

Doug Jemal would be one example.

If you think for a second there is no "pay to play" culture inside DC's government when it comes to development, you are either naive or on the take.

Trash and filth cover most of DC.
You probably live in North Cleveland Park with Popville. Try going east of the park someday.

Such hyperbole can't be taken seriously. I live EOTP, spend time all over this city, in every quadrant, and that is a ridiculous statement.

Screw that "shining city on a hill" crap. Congress doesn't give a rat's ass about DC; never did and never will. Yet we are still beholden to them riding roughshod over the city.

It is light years better than thirty years ago when ,oat wealthy paid no,property taxes because one enforced it, everyone was a Barry crony and crime was rampant

Appreciate what has been created

Let's not be willfully stupid. I am well aware that VA and MD have a role in Metro. I am also aware that DC wields disproportionate control over managing Metro and hiring the useless incompetents that work for Metro. Let's not pretend otherwise and embarrass ourselves.

Well you're wrong. DC acrually has less of a vote, if you combine the county votes to make MD and VA. The votes are allocated to the counties that have stations, both MD and VA governors appoint a representative, and congress now appoints a representative. Congress did not always have a seat at the board, but they demanded such a couple years ago as a condition of funding aid.

I lived east of the park when I first lived here. I work in Columbia Heights. It was ten times worse when I moved here in 1994. Trust me, you ain't seen nothin'.

Ok, so DC was worse more than 20 years ago, but is still disgusting today. You have lived in DC during this time. You win ...?

Is there something keeping you in DC?

Really? You want a government board making aesthetic decisions? LOL

I'll settle for enforcing stop work orders on dangerous housing. It would be nice if DC wasn't being filled with hideous popups and beige brick monstrosities, but you're right -- DC government would probably come up with something even worse. Just look at the Reeves Center.

Reeves Center was built and owned by one of the Jemal brothers. Your beef is with him. DC only rents office space there.

You must be right, all the incompetents at Metro are from VA and MD. ?

Please name a city where this doesn't happen. I once lived in Orlando, Fl (big, sprawling, backwards ass city) that also had its pay to play rules.

Comprehension fail on your part. The point is that DC doesn't have any more control over Metro than your beloved MOCO or FFX. They are all responsible, but for years VA delegates refused to do what was necessary to maintain proper upkeep, which led to a slow deterioration of a once functioning and inexpensive system. It wasn't until they wanted the extension to Tyson's that VA began paying attention their collective responsibilities.

Wrong. Metro is a jobs program for DC. Always has been. Don't try to blame VA, or MD, or $, or anything else.

Well if that's the case, DC is doing a poor ass job. Most of the workers at metro live in MD.

Oh okay then; you're right; you're right.

That makes it A-OK then!

At least you don't dispute the facts.

doesnt make it ok, but you did not name one city per that post request. Do they not have pay to play where you're from? I'm sure they do, perhaps not on the same level, but look close. It's there.
