Everything DC manages is a disaster

^^
I don't understand what this has to do with DC or really anything.

Thank you for this, a perfect picture of my thoughts when I saw the thread title.

The bar is set so low...how pathetic.

Can't wait for DC to open up the multiple new homeless shelters spread to places lacking any substantial access to transit and far from the areas where the large bulk of homeless shelter residents have social or family ties. Brilliant, DC.

Doug Jemal would be one example.

If you think for a second there is no "pay to play" culture inside DC's government when it comes to development, you are either naive or on the take.

Please name a city where this doesn't happen. I once lived in Orlando, Fl (big, sprawling, backwards ass city) that also had its pay to play rules.

If you are trying to argue "everything DC manages is *NOT* a disaster," your argument is not terribly convincing.

Parking enforcement works very well in DC!

Let's not be willfully stupid. I am well aware that VA and MD have a role in Metro. I am also aware that DC wields disproportionate control over managing Metro and hiring the useless incompetents that work for Metro. Let's not pretend otherwise and embarrass ourselves.

Well you're wrong. DC acrually has less of a vote, if you combine the county votes to make MD and VA. The votes are allocated to the counties that have stations, both MD and VA governors appoint a representative, and congress now appoints a representative. Congress did not always have a seat at the board, but they demanded such a couple years ago as a condition of funding aid.

You must be right, all the incompetents at Metro are from VA and MD. ?

Comprehension fail on your part. The point is that DC doesn't have any more control over Metro than your beloved MOCO or FFX. They are all responsible, but for years VA delegates refused to do what was necessary to maintain proper upkeep, which led to a slow deterioration of a once functioning and inexpensive system. It wasn't until they wanted the extension to Tyson's that VA began paying attention their collective responsibilities.

Wrong. Metro is a jobs program for DC. Always has been. Don't try to blame VA, or MD, or $, or anything else.

You are just flat our wrong here. Look it up.

Just looked it up, and I'm right. So sorry.

Where did you look up? Please post the link.....I am fairly sure that the addresses of WMATA employees are not made public. However, if my memory serves me right, I recall seeing that a disportionate percentage of the operational staff are MD residents, and a disportionate percentage of administrative staff are VA residents. I agree that individual responsiblility is greatly lacking across the employee base (not everyone) but to place the blame on DC residents alone is unfair and untrue. It may fit the narrative that you NEED to believe, but is false.

As for DC....it is becoming a big city, and has had big city problems for decades. Yes, city services could be better. but a previous poster noted the work of Mayor Williams....and I know that it does not fit your narrative, but he reveresed a trend and set the city on a better course. You can expect better without trashing the progress made - I think that is the pushback that you are reading (from some).

So why are you sorry to confirm that the majority of WMATA employees are VA and MD residents?

+1

We really need to catch up on infrastructure. Hopefully Hillary gives it a big push.

The defensive reaction to OP is really funny. The grammar of the defensive posts is really sad.

DC started the first public-private bike sharing program. One might argue the private investment made it successful however it believe the project was managed by DC DOT.

DC can't figure out garbage collection. Every week they forget bins or dump them all over the alley. And let's not forget the impossible feat of getting a new bin after your neighbors repeatedly steal yours. Who steals trash bins, anyway? DCers, that's who.
