While I don't agree with OP's statement, I can (kind of) see where she's coming from. With old age sometimes comes sympathy and a "let them be" attitude. It's very hard for some to connect a callous young man to an old feeble guy barely able to walk.

I realize that many of today's 14 year old are practically treated like infants, but 14 year olds are very capable of knowing basic right from wrong, and making their own decisions.
