OP again, yep that was me. As I stated I worked retail and fast food as a teenager and my parents often waited or I called when i was done and waited for them. It's just the way it was and we all knew it.

And in all your years of retail and fast food you never started closing early when it was quiet? Never started putting things away or getting ready to close? I kind of doubt you worked retail/fast food or you would have had some measure of understanding for their situation. Many of the posters can see why they might have shut the door - you couldn't, hence I highly doubt you worked fast food. You would know how many obnoxious, demanding and entitled customers there are out there and you wouldn't act like one.

Well you are wrong. No we never closed and locked the doors early. Sure we started cleaning up but our managers never allowed us to lock the doors and refuse customers before the offical closing time. I also never worked at fast food or retail where there was not always a manager on site. Perhaps one of those girls was the manager, I dont know. Only one had a name tag on. I worked at Hardees (midwest) and Kmart (here in the DC metro area).

Oh and I worked the customer service desk at Kmart so yes I know about demanding entitled customers. LOL

I was not acting out of entitlement or anything of the such, I honestly thought the girls were obligated to keep the doors open until closing time as was always my experience.

You live and learn!

So you were desperate because ypur child would get out of practice in 2 hours? Surely in 2 hours you could find a vegetarian option.

Why don't you feed him before practice?

The workers were being lazy. If the place is open until 8PM, then it's open until 8PM.

I am not sure that I would have banged on the door until they let me in. However, I would have recorded (or remembered) the nametags (or descriptions) of the two girls, the address, the exact time, the number of customers inside, and all other details. Then, I would have gone online and gotten the manager's or franchise owner's contact information, and called or emailed about the incident.

OP, a lesson I have learned...if you come to DCUM asking if you were wrong...you will be quickly told how wrong you were.

Also obnoxious bc just because YOUR watch or phone says 7:55 doesn't mean the time clock doesn't say 8. I hated people who tried to pull that my watch crap when I was in HS and worked fast food.

Self-fulfilling prophecy.

People come here looking for validation and get slapped back to reality.

What if she asked "was I right?".

I worked fast food retail, and I would have been fired for this. Sure, you HOPE you can close early, and you can start the process in the HOPES that someone isn't coming, but anyone who works fast food knows you don't go home at 8 pm if the store closes at 8 pm. You lock the doors at 8 pm and THEN clean up. You sure as shit don't refuse customers at 7:53. That's insane.

As I already stated, typically I pack something but I didnt get a chance to yesterday, was rushing around before we left.

His training is not 2 hours, it's 1.5 hours, over at 9pm. Of course there are other vegetarian options. I have no clue where they are in that area and all I know is I see a subway and a Mcd's to and from the highway. That's not really the point either. I mean hell, I could have gotten home at 10pm, fixed him dinner and he couldve eaten then. For obvious reasons I did not want to be doing that.

Anyway, I think Ive gotten my answer to the question "was I wrong". thanks for all the non snooty sarcastic replies.

As has been pointed out, Subways are franchise. Each store is either individually owned or a set of several stores are owned together, but there are no management ties to the HQ. Subway stores are run with the minimal number of staff because of this and are very low overhead businesses. Managers generally only work during prime hours, generally around standard business type hours. If you come early or come late, you are unlikely to find a manager on the premises. In fact, outside the busiest times, there is likely to only be one person on staff. I worked 4 different Subways stores during college and I frequently was the only person on duty.

Because the stores are owned and operated on a small scale, many owners/managers will suggest that on slow nights, the staff should close up early, clean and get out early. Yes, the staff is paid, but if you the staff leaves at 8:30 instead of 9:00 then the owner had to pay 30 minutes less. If there was no business in the last 30 minutes, then it cuts down on operating expenses. And we were told that once we chose to close and have started to clean, that we turn the closed sign around and do not reopen. If I had been those girls, I would have come to the door and said through the door (not unlocking it), I'm sorry, but we've closed early. Please come back tomorrow. Yes, I understand some patrons may choose to "never come back again" because of the horrible customer service, but unfortunately, those were the policies and the enforcement was left to the individual employee.

Yes, you were wrong.

And watch "Waiting" for a reason NEVER to pull this at a place they prepare your food in a non-visible area.
Anonymous
Subway is actually very visible. You can see everything they do while preparing the food.
