I don't disagree and find it a really frightening cult. It's unbelievable that there's not a higher level of concern out there. Do they really stalk people they want to join who won't? Can you even imagine? Yikes. |
| It's surprising how quickly this divorce was settled. |
I'm just the opposite. I admire her because she's not putting those kids out there in the public eye. Whether she's with them or not, the one thing is if she is with them, she's not touting them around the paparazzi - I respect her for that. |
have any of the details of the divorce been revealed? |

The New Yorker did a fascinating article/expose about the organization/cult last year.
Like all New Yorker articles, it was really long, but here's a summary of the key points: http://theweek.com/article/index/211894/the-new-yorkers-scientology-expose-7-key-revelations |
I can't find it now, but I was reading an online discussion where someone shared this story- A woman was at a grocery store with her small son. She put her kid in the car, walked the cart over to the cart return, and when she came back, two men were talking to her son. They handed her some Co$ pamphlets and started asking her about where the father was. She brushed them off and drove home. She saw them following her home, so she tried to lose them and eventually did (or so she thought). For the next few weeks, the same two men would ring her doorbell and then leave church propaganda on the door step when she didn't answer. It only stopped when her boyfriend answered the door one day with the gun he was cleaning still in hand. |
The kids were only 5-6 and 8-9 at the time of the divorce. If at that age they wanted to stay with dad, I wonder why. Seems odd that Nicole thought at that age they were old enough to make a decision. Tom and Nicole's divorce was finalized in 2001. Kids were born in 1992 and 1995. |
Yet you see her photographed with her three biological children. Your "respect" is a little misguided. |
The kids' decision to stay with Tom also didn't prevent Nicole from staying in LA to be near them. Her excuses are just that...excuses. |
Did you read this article? Particularly the fourth page? http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/tom-cruise-katie-holmes-divorce-scientology-344687 I think it's bad to judge her without knowing all that she was up against. When the excuse is a scary cult who convinces your kids you're a sociopath, so then the kids cut off most contact with you, I'd find that to be a damn good excuse. |
So you wouldn't fight for your children if you thought they were involved with a scary cult? |
Again, did you read the article? Nicole and Tom shared custody of their children. As the children got older, they were turned against her and didn't WANT to be with her. After a child reaches a certain age, they can choose the parent with whom they want to spend the most time. Also, Tom has a very powerful, rich, secretive church behind him. Also, at the time (2001 I think) the church hadn't been publicly exposed like it has been now. Katie has the public on her side because everyone's talking about all the strange things that are allegedly going on in the church (blackmail, stalking, killing, "disappearing," etc) but Nicole didn't have the public on her side. As seen in this thread, everyone thought she just abandoned her kids. Also, Katie had the advantage of blindsiding Tom with the divorce. She was able to plan her strategy for months and back Tom into a corner where she had the upper hand. All the negative publicity for the church most likely influenced the super-speedy settlement. Back in the early 2000s, it was Tom who blindsided Katie. He had the upper hand and the powerful church behind him. |
um, she only has 2 kids with keith urban. Unless she had another through a surrogate that I'm not aware of. |
Rumor is she had some serious shit on him. He wouldn't have given up on Suri that quickly/easily if not. Her father/attorney helped her plan this out perfectly. Did anyone see the statement released from her family about how they were "excited" for her now that the divorce was over? Interesting choice of words. |
Hogwash. Honestly, the folks against this cult religion are almost as bad as those who are members. |
